This is Maya. She is a 2 year-old salt and pepper female – and she weighs 13 pounds. Maya’s story is unique – she was traded to a farmer for a bunch of chickens when she was about 1 ½ years old. It didn’t take the farmer long to realize that Schnauzers are not very good farm dogs. So, he tied her up in the barn for about six months (through the winter). When he finally decided to get rid of her he listed her on Craig’s List. Thankfully an SRC member responded to the listing and rescued this gorgeous little girl!
Even though Maya has been through a lot she is a sweet natured little girl who just wants to be the center of someone’s world. She is a very curious little girl and follows her foster mom from room to room like she is trying to figure out what she is doing! She lives in a foster home with 5 other dogs and 3 cats. She gets along great with all the dogs and loves to play, play, play!! She is curious about the cats and chases them, but she really just wants to play with them – she would never hurt one!
She has been around kids, but because of her energy level and playfulness, should not live in a home with toddlers (kids 8-10 would be perfect). As to be expected (after living in a barn) Maya is still learning with her potty training – although she is getting better each day. Her foster brothers/sisters are helping her a lot! But with patience she will learn her boundaries quickly. She walks well on a leash and loves car rides.
Maya is spayed and up to date on vaccinations and heart worm testing. She is currently on preventative for heart worm and fleas.
If anyone out there is looking for a playful cuddle bug Maya is your girl. Her favorite place after a long day of playing is on someone’s lap!
Maya if being fostered by Nina in Indianapolis, IN. Her adoption fee is $300.
