Winky's Story...
Winky is a young, sweet and gentle girl who was rescued from a Maryland shelter. She enjoys human attention and quickly purrs when petted. She doesn't mind being held and cuddled for brief periods of time. When given fuzzy little toys, especially scented with catnip, she bats them around the floor. A cute behavior she displays is to flop on the floor and roll on her back or from side to side.

When she came to the shelter she was already declawed. She had also lost one eye, probably due to an infection, and has some scar tissue on the other eye.

Her prior home had three dogs that chased her around the house. As a result she was an unhappy and distressed kitty, but is now relaxing in the peace and quiet she deserves.

Sudden movements and loud noises startle her (likely because of her stressful dog experience and reduced vision) so a home with dogs or young children would not be suitable, but more mature children should be OK. Her best home will be a quiet one. She would also prefer to be the only special kitty you have in your life. Winky is always happy when she gets attention and affection from her person!

Winky is estimated to have been born in April 2012. She has been spayed, tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia, and is current on vaccinations. Winky is also micro-chipped.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Winky, a Merrifield Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Merrifield, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Merrifield.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Merrifield already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Merrifield breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Merrifield paves the way for another one to be saved.
