Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ribbit! My name is BULLFROG, but not because I am an amphibian. Instead, I am an awesome dog! A shelter worker in Southern Indiana gave me my name of endearment. She thought I sat looking like a big ol' toad waiting for someone to come and take me home. Well, my special someone never showed up, but luckily, Rover Rescue heard about what an exceptional boy I am. Next thing I knew, I was safe and making my way north to live in a loving, temporary home. My foster family has promised to help me find a furever family deserving of a lovebug like me. When the vet was recently asked what kind of breed he thought I was, he responded, "an American Bulldog Mix". After doing some research, yep, I think that is me! The American Bulldog is described as a stocky, strong looking dog with a large head. (The big noggin is where I keep all my smarts!) No, I am not green and slimy, but a brown brindle that makes me look tiger striped with a large white patch on my chest. The breed has a smooth short coat and mine feels just like velvet. The American Bulldog male weighs between 70 to 120 pounds. I am currently a lightweight, weighing in at 85 pounds. The website I was reading said that American Bulldogs can be droolers, and yes, that describes me also. I can be slobbery, but not like those St. Bernard fellows. The life expectancy is 10 to 15 years so we can have a lot of good times together before I croak... pun intended. I am somewhere between 2 to 3 years old. My foster family thinks that I am not only a handsome brute, but I am quite the prince. They didn't even have to kiss me to figure that one out! I have a great disposition and I am a social butterfly. I know no strangers and expect everyone to love me... and with this face, how could you not?!? I do like to introduce myself with a jump and a big sloppy kiss. I am working on the jumping part and would sure hate to knock down a little one in my eagerness. I am just an affectionate big baby myself. I just want to love and be loved. I was found as a stray, but my foster family swears I had a home at one time. I know sit, down, shake, high five and I am working on leave it. (I need my big head to contain all those brain cells!) I take treats extremely gentle and my favorite is ice cubes. I love to catch my goodies mid air and I have really great aim! I have perfect manners, as I am house trained and not destructive at all. I do like to play with toys and I adore rawhides. They are the best! I have a crate, but due to my good behavior, it has not been put to use. On occasion, I will occupy it myself with the door open. I am a pretty laid back kind of guy. I don't require a ton of attention and am just content knowing you are near. If you do invite me to snuggle on the couch, I will not turn down the invitation. I get along fine with my foster brother who is also a big canine. I seem to do well with little dogs also. I met a puppy at an adoption event and fell in love with the little tyke. I don't think I would necessarily appreciate a hyper playmate though. I am definitely the more calm, cool and collected type. I love to go for car rides and will grab shotgun if it is available. I will sit on the seat and look out the window and enjoy the view. When I am in the house, I do have a loud, deep bark that will alert you to strangers approaching and will more than likely detour intruders. I am not going to require much grooming, but I was a gentleman when I got my welcome home bath. My foster mom said I was the easiest of all the dogs she has bathed. The only negative she can come up with is that I am very strong and I pull when on a leash. She uses a prong collar when we go for walks, but I still need to work on my leash skills. If I, BULLFROG, sound like a good fit for your family, jump on the phone and call Darla at 630-406-9405. The adoption fee for BULLFROG is $200 and includes up-to-date vetting, a recent neuter, a free microchip and a loyal companion. Hop to and call!
