My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tucker is a very friendly, affectionate and handsome boy who loves everyone. He is young, energetic, playful and will make a great addition to just about any family situation. We don't know Tucker's exact breeding but he has a gorgeous chocolate brown coat that doesn't shed much. Tucker is young at approximately 1 1/2 to 2 years old and will need some further training but he has been socialized well and is great with other dogs and people of all ages. He is a big boy and currently weighs approximately 70 lbs.

Tucker is a bit of a miracle baby! When Tucker was first brought into the shelter it was found that he had been shot in the head and presumably left to die in the woods. Surgery proved unsuccessful in removing the bullet which remains lodged in his naval cavity but doesn't appear to cause any health risks. He has lost full sight in his right eye but this doesn't appear to have any negative effects on him and he remains a healthy and happy dog.

Here is what his foster family had to say:

Tucker appears as any other healthy young dog. Although he does have some sight loss in his right eye it doesn't appear to affect his behaviour and you would never know to just look at him that there was anything amiss. He is a gorgeous dog with a great sense of fun and is well socialized and not shy of anyone or anything. He loves to spend his day playing with his foster sibling and getting lots of hugs and kisses from his foster family.

Tucker has been very friendly with everyone he has met including strangers that have been coming in and out of the house. He has never shown any signs of fear or apprehension in any situation and he is not even afraid of the vacuum cleaner which is surprising as he tries to play with it. He is great with other dogs and loves playing with our dog and the two of them will often be found sleeping together. We do not have cats in the home but were told that although he is not aggressive to cats, he will try to play with them so any cat should be dog savvy.

Tucker loves playing fetch and he will continue retrieving for you as long as you are willing to throw the ball or stick. It is his favourite game. He is a young dog so playing is a big part of his day. He also loves to play with our dog and they have great times together so another dog in the home would be great for him.

Tucker knows some of his basic commands such as sit, come, drop it but would benefit from further training. He is a very fast learner and is eager and willing to please. We have never found it necessary to use a crate for Tucker as he is well behaved in the home. The only issue would be if you leave food around, he would take it if it's within his reach. He is fully house trained and knows to do his business outside. He is very quiet and rarely barks even when someone knocks on the door so he wouldn't make a very good watch dog. We are working on his leash training but he will need someone to continue with that as he does still pull at this point. He is a dog that you could take anywhere as he is just so friendly with everyone he meets. Obedience classes would be great if someone was interested in that. Once he is trained he would also make a good therapy dog as he is just so accepting of everything and so interested and friendly with people in general. At this age he would probably do best in a home with older children who were able to enjoy playing with him. He is also great in the car - he just sleeps.

Tucker is a very funny, energetic, and affectionate dog. (great cuddler!) He is great to play with other dogs and always has hilarious moves when he is playing with our dog! You can never be bored with him, but at the same time if you just want to relax and watch TV he is okay to just sit/lie down next to you, as long as he is with people he is happy. I think it would be great for him to be around other dog(s), since he loves it and it gives him a reason to spend all his energy. He'd be a good family dog.

If you think Tucker may be a great fit for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
