My story

This is Cappy, and we don't have to mention his good looks because you can see that he is about as handsome as they come! Cappy's ESRA story began last year when he was rescued from the shelter. He was fostered and adopted, and he settled in to his new home. But within a few months, Cappy showed signs of food aggression, and his adoptive family made the decision to return him to ESRA.

Cappy's foster family began working with him on his behavior, and in the meantime they learned that Cappy has several wonderful characteristics typical of Springers. His list of positive qualities is long: Cappy is a loving dog and likes to cuddle. He can be playful when you want him to, but he also can just hang out and be calm. When you talk to him, he will talk back. He is patient during grooming and loves to be combed. He is food motivated and loves to learn new tricks; his favorite is Shake. He loves people and is learning not to jump up on them. He housetrained and shows good manners in the house. He is a good leash walker. Cappy lives with other dogs and gets along well with them. He loves going to the dog park.

Cappy's foster family has implemented a structured environment that allows Cappy to succeed. Feeding time is monitored and managed. When Cappy gets tired at night, he sometimes wants to be left alone and will let his people know that by growling. His foster family escorts him to his kennel, and he settles in there. Cappy's issues are predictable and under control in his foster home because he is positively managed.

We want to place Cappy in a home with adults only. The adults in his home should be willing to provide structure along with positive reinforcement. Cappy takes more time to trust men, and he favors his foster mom, but has has come a long way with his foster dad. Cappy has proven that he can be a joy in his home and bring lots of smiles to his people. He is looking forward to his next chapter!

Please note that an approved adoption application is the first step in a more thorough interview process that is designed to match each dog to exactly the right family, and that the final decision rests with the dog's case manager.

Please read the Adoption FAQ and get an Adoption Application approved before inquiring about Cappy.
