Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sydney is a beautiful 9 year old American Eskimo-Pomeranian who was given to rescue after she was attacked by another dog in her home. The attack left her with life threatening injuries and an ongoing sensitivity around her neck. The rescue was told that she had bitten staff at the animal care facility where her family left her, so her foster mom placed Sydney in a harness rather than putting a collar around her sore neck. That worked. Sydney has not bitten in her foster home—although her permanent home should be aware that it is always a possibility given her trauma. Therefore she will need an adult home who understands her “special needs.”
At home, Sydney is an adventurer rather than a lap dog. She loves to explore fenced yards and is very happy rolling in the dirt. She’s wonderful about coming when called, too. Sydney has a fabulous appetite, although she can guard her food around other dogs. To keep her from eating too rapidly, her foster mom puts Sydney’s meals in a puzzle bowl, which works really well with her.
Inside, Sydney is a bit of a couch potato. She prefers lying on the floor and resting, but will also sit on her person’s lap occasionally. She’s a good-natured, quiet dog who is very loyal and doesn’t ask for much. Given her history and her resource guarding, we think Sydney would be happiest as an only dog. She’d love to live with respectful adults who don’t want a dog that needs to be on their lap all the time and won’t want to pick her up often. She’d be a great partner for someone who would like to spend time outside with her. She will be a great gardening buddy or your best friend sitting on the deck or patio!
