Ashton, also sometimes referred to as “Smokey the Cat” is a sweet, loveable, playful boy. He is profoundly hearing impaired, possibly totally deaf. But that doesn’t keep him down. He romps & plays like any other kitty. Ashton came from an abusive household. In 2009 the rescue’s founders daughter was a teen. She was visiting a friend’s home. She was present when the friend’s Mom angered at little Ashton, then a tiny kitten, failed to respond to her screams at him when he was working up his biscuits on her sofa. She did not realize that Ashton could not hear her, not that it would have likely changed the outcome. She snatched up poor little Ashton, took him into the back yard and tossed him into the neighbors fenced yard where a pit bull was kept-screaming that she hoped he would be eaten by the dog. The founder’s daughter quickly scaled the fence before the dog got little Ashton, saving his life. (Yes a cruelty complaint was made against this horrible human)

Ashton is a beautiful smoke color. He is likely an Egyptian Mau mix. Mau’s are great jumpers and Ashton has been known to jump 15 feet horizontally. He is a sweet boy. He loves affection. He loves to spend time in your lap watching TV, loving, and purring. He gets along well with other cats, small dogs (frightened of large dogs) and children. He is up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLv negative, neutered and ready for his furrever home.

Special Need: Hearing Impaired

About Purrs & Wags of Memphis

About Our Rescue Group...

Purrs & Wags of Memphis is a no-kill rescue. We take in and provide care to pets who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or injured. When they are ready we endeavor to find them the best possible homes for the rest of their lives. All our adoptable pets will be up to date on vaccines, spayed or neutered, wormed, FIV.FeLv checked, HW checked, some but not all are microchipped. They all have spent time in foster homes, so we can tell you how they behave with children and other pets (even husbands)

Purrs & Wags are always looking for qualified foster homes for dogs & cats. To foster you must be willing to provide shelter, day to day care, and love to a rescued animal for an extended period of time. Some animals stay in foster care for years before being adopted. You must be able to take them to Vet appointments, adoption events, and meet & greets. If you are interested, contact us for more information.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with the daily care of our foster animals, which includes feeding, watering, bathing when needed, litterbox cleaning, not to mention grooming, loving, petting, and walking the animals. If you are interested in helping out with the day to day care of animals already in foster care, contact us for more information.

Come Meet Our Pets...
