My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The very first thing our rescuer noticed about Maya were her expressive eyes in the dim shelter light. She stared at Maya for a bit and saw all the wonderful possibilities in this beautiful Poodle - underneath the shelter matts and filth is an exceptional white Poodle with hints of apricot in her cottony hair. Maya immediately made it clear that she's a LOVE! Her adorable little nose sniffed shyly through the bars at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile. Maya was brought out of her cage.. and before you knew it, she was in our rescuer's lap. She was shy and a bit frightened but was so happy for the hugs and soft touch. This one year old, approximately 12 lb Poodle truly lights up when she feels like she's done a good job... some serious belly rubs and kind words will send her over the moon. Maya wants to be a people dog...with a bit of post-shelter confidence and love...she will be overjoyed that she's finally found her forever family. We are searching for a home that truly loves this very kind pup. Maya appears to enjoy all people but we feel that she might become overwhelmed by the rowdiness and loud voices of very young children- therefore a family with kids under 10 won't be considered. We envision Maya with an active retired couple or individual (Maya loves her walks!) who want an adorable young dog as a family member and companion. She would be so excited to spend her days in the company of her family....she's quiet and mellow enough to spend her afternoon snoozing on the couch or would be very happy to go for a long walk on mountain trails or neighborhood paths. She would also be a perfect office dog in a dog-friendly workplace....she would be well behaved and respectful (as long as she can sleep on your feet...great foot warmer). Maya can have moments of shyness from the turmoil that has been in her life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great girl past any insecure feelings and let her know she is loved and will never be abandoned.
Maya, as a purebred Poodle (or so we're told by the shelter vets in Kansas) is considered to be one of the top non-shedding, hypoallergenic breeds. She will therefore require periodic grooming as well as great nutrition to keep her cotton-soft coat healthy and matt-free.
We've requested that Maya be spayed prior to arriving on transport in Denver. This often doesn't occur in rural Kansas due to too many dogs and very few vets. If this is the case, Farfel's is happy to cover the costs for Maya to be fixed and microchipped if our Denver vet is used.
Maya will be arriving on transport in Denver on Tuesday 5/1215. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and loyal companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
