My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Georgy, a beagle / dachshund mix who was found as a stray in southern Indiana. Georgy did not like shelter life and was difficult to temperament test him because of this. A foster home in southern Indiana opened up and agreed to further test Georgy. It took no time at all for his Indiana foster mom to see that he was a smart, fun loving guy who prefers being in a home. Georgy had such a great temperament that he was an ideal candidate to send to rescue. He tested negative for heartworm and soon found himself headed north to look for his fur-ever home.

Georgy's foster home with Rover Rescue consists of 2 large resident dogs who occasionally will play with Georgy. He also was around a senior dog who made it clear to Georgy that she did not play with young whippersnappes. His favorite dogs in the foster home seem to be the 2 large female dogs who visit often and they absolutely adore his funny personality. Should there be no dog to play with, Georgy is just as happy tossing around the tennis ball himself or running around the yard with a toy in his mouth.

It's hard to pinpoint Georgy's breeds. His mixed ancestry has left him looking and acting much like a miniature Vizsla, lol! He has a short, easy to care for golden rust coat with a slightly darker strip going from his neck to his tail. His soft amber eyes melt into the folds of his skin when he rests his head on your lap. He is as loyal as the day is long and wants to participate in all his foster family does. He has a quick recall and is a total people pleaser. Georgy loves to burrow into blankets and pillows, and his favorite time is whenever he is close to his people.

Georgy also lives with cat and was very interested in him initially. The cat swiped him with claws and now Georgy won't make eye contact with the cat, lol! Georgy also lives with 5 children in the home ranging in age from 2-15 and he is an absolute gentleman with all of them. He loves to snuggle with them especially as they do their homework. He is very smart and has started agility training as well as basic obedience commands. His favorite agility obstacle is the teeter-totter and the tunnel. Despite the endless supply of shoes and toys, Georgy has not shown any signs of being a chewer. His foster mom does believe he had a family life at one time as he immediately wanted to sleep in his foster parent's bed. Due to the foster dad's allergies, no dogs sleep in the bed so he made himself at home in the laundry basket. His good behavior has earned him the privilege of sleeping with the teenager in the home who says he has no issues sleeping through the night. She also noted he is scared of the pet rats in the home so maybe there isn't any dachshund in him after all, lol!

Georgy is a very on the go dog and is always up for a car ride! He would be best in a family who has a fenced backyard for him to play or an active lifestyle where he will get physical exercise. He would make the perfect second dog since he is so good with other dogs and is just the right size to add to a family. Georgy is highly trainable and picks up on routine very quickly. He has no problem sleeping through the night and is easily crated when his foster family is gone. His adoption fee is $200 which includes a certificate for a free microchipping with a Rover Rescue veterinarian. If you are interested in adding Georgy to your family, please call his foster mom Mary at 630-585-7927 for a phone interview. She will have some questions for you as well as answer any questions you may have about this smart, comical canine!
