My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET OSCAR WILDE -

Oscar Wilde (Oscar for short) is an adorable and clever 4 year old male, smooth hair chocolate and cream dapple AKC dachshund (no papers), who...truth be told is a bit of a 'momma's boy.' This little guy is full of love, snuggles, and a meticulous dedication for toy’s. Pulling every squeaker out of his toys is one of his favorite past-times- he doesn’t give up! Besides his dedication to pulling squeakers and stuffing out of his toys he adores long walks, light jogs, tug-of-war, ‘TREATS,’ burrowing snuggles, which includes sleeping under the covers, and absolutely LOVES finding the sunniest spot to sun-bathe. Oscar needs to be the only fur baby in the household (no dogs, cats or kids). He is house trained and will let you know when he needs to go out...sometimes he will let you know when he wants to be walked as well. His eyes light up when you mention the words, 'Want to go outside for a walk?' and 'Do you need to go potty?' He loves running in his fenced in back yard and has only been outside a fence with a harness/leash and has never received training to walk without one.

He has lots of energy so he needs a doxie proof secure fenced yard to play in. He does best with a schedule and normal routine which include his meal times. Like most doxies, Oscar loves being with and taking care of his people. He loves to snuggle and burrow in between pillows and his people, loves play time, and loves to be serenaded to at bedtime and when he feels anxious. Oscar has a contentious and anxious behavior that requires a lot of patience and TLC in his everyday routine. He is a frightened and timid little guy with mild separation anxiety who desperately wants a momma to love him. He needs lots of love and patience, but is one smart, loveable doxie who wants to please. Are you looking for a loving, fun, HAPPY doxie to be part of your family forever? If so, Oscar would love to meet you.

UPDATE on OSCAR:
Oscar just returned from the vets, where he had a full examination, vaccinations and necessary dental and extractions on 5/21/15. Oscar is a very precious, tiny momma's boy.

As mentioned above, OSCAR is a Dachshund and like all doxies, he is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, OSCAR needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give OSCAR a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
