My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

7/22/15 Update: Shelby is still recovering from her eye surgery, but she is doing fine. She went back for another check-up with the eye specialist yesterday and they removed the cone. She's very happy about that! She'll still need two different eye drops for the next two months, but she is ready and anxious for her forever home. Shelby is an energetic, playful German Shepard mix. This gorgeous girl is two years old and weighs 55 pounds. Please help Shelby find the loving home she deserves.

6/23/15 Update: Shelby had her surgery. The dermoid was successfully removed and the vet said she did very well. She is currently on 8 medications (five different eye drops and ointments, two antibiotics and pain medication). She's not too happy about some of the drops, but she is a good girl and stays still for most of them. Being already blind in her left eye, and now having surgery on the right eye, it's been a tough few days for Shelby. But Shelby is a resilient dog and we know, in time, she will recover.

5/23/15: When we first got Shelby, we noticed there was something wrong with her eyes. We took her to a specialist and the diagnosis was more dire than we expected. If Shelby doesn’t have surgery, she will eventually go blind.

Shelby is already blind in her right eye and there is nothing we can do to change that. At some point, her eye ruptured from some sort of trauma and it was never treated. It does not bother her, but it can’t be fixed. Now Shelby is in danger of losing sight in her left eye. Her left eye has a “dermoid” which is already interfering with her vision. A dermoid is a tissue that does not normally grow on the eye. The tissue has elements of skin and often has a tuft of hair growing from it. Shelby has a tuft of hair. She literally has hair follicles growing out of her eye. Without surgery the dermoid will continue to cause scarring until she is completely blind.

Shelby is an energetic, playful German Shepard/Rottweiler mix. We rescued Shelby, and her two little pups, from a high-kill shelter after some thoughtless person dumped them there and drove off. This beautiful girl is very friendly and would love a home with a big yard so she can romp and play to her heart's content! Shelby is two years old and weighs 55 pounds. Please help this gorgeous girl find the loving home she deserves.
