Foster parents have the first option to adopt. We will provide all you need to foster.
Weight: 23 lbs
Age: 1 year, 7 months
Personality: Very sweet, calm, well mannered, but he is a little skittish when first meeting new people. He warms up quickly once he feels safe. Affectionate and loving. Riley is going to make a wonderful canine companion.
Coat: Soft, silky, will need weekly brushing, and an occasional bath every 6 weeks or so. Sheds some, but far less than other breeds.
Training: Sits, goes into crate on command. Walks well on a leash. New owner needs to use positive reinforcement training methods with Riley, as he is sensitive to harsh tones of the voice. Choke chains and other negative training methods will not be effective and may be damaging to Riley's personality.
Potty trained: Partially. Riley is working on house training and doing so much better! When he arrived into the rescue, he was 0% potty trained. His foster mom says he is a lot better now, but his new family will need to continue training.
Health: Excellent, no known health issues. Received full veterinary workup in Korea including fecal testing for parasites. X-rays are done if the vet finds anything suspicious, but Riley is very healthy. His walk is a little stiff in the hind end because he lacks good muscle mass, from spending too much time in a playpen. His hips and knees test excellent according to both our Korean and US vet, so they recommend he gets more exercise. He has been vaccinated for Canine Influenza, as well as his rabies, kennel cough and DA2P.
History: Owner brought Riley in to be groomed at a grooming salon in South Korea, but then abandoned him, for unknown reasons. He continued to live in the grooming shop with 20 other dogs, until he was rescued by one of our rescue partners in Korea. He was brought to the U.S. to find a better life and a forever home where he is cherished as he should be.
Fostered in: Fullerton, CA
Type of home: Ideal owner would be a calm, secure happy couple or single person, who will gently train Riley and help him come out of his shell. He needs exposure to the world in a positive way.
Crate trained: Yes, sleeps in crate. His crate is his safety spot, so when he gets frightened of something he goes into his crate.
Good with Dogs: Yes, lives with multiple dogs
Good with Kids: Yes, but not with very young kids since he is a bit noise sensitive
Good with Cats: Unknown, but probably yes
Adoption fee (non-refundable): $500
All dogs are fully vetted, tested for heartworm, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations.
Our adoption process looks like this:
1. Adoption application review by WHDR board
2. Adoption application approval
3. Meet and greet
4. Home safety check
5. Final approval and adoption finalized
Our volunteers, donors and adopters mean the world to us! Without you, we couldn't do what we do - saving the lives of abused, neglected and abandoned dogs and providing them with a loving forever home.
