My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

6/11/15 Update: Not only is Jackson a very handsome “red" Golden, he also possesses that wonderful Golden exuberance and enthusiasm for people, and life in general. He is so happy to have attention after his lonely start to life, he is like a big puppy. Our volunteer told us after taking his pictures: "I just loved Jackson! It's rare that a dog will look at the camera without quickly looking away but he kept poking his head toward me, looking into the camera. LOL So funny and friendly. He really wanted to play but of course had to be kept on the leash and kept "calm" because of his heartworm treatment. So sweet!” Jackson continues to do well through his treatment and will be ready for his home in mid July. Jackson is going to be a fabulous Golden companion.

Jackson's Story: Hi there, I am Jackson and I am just so happy to have been “rescued!” You see, I have lived most of my life tied out to a tree in my former family’s back yard. Mom & Dad got divorced and mom had no job. It was tough for her to find money to feed the 4 human kids, so sometimes I went hungry which is why I am so skinny. Grandma would give mom money so she could buy me some food. Living tied out to a tree was not much fun at all so Grandma convinced Mom to let me go live with her, and then called the kind rescue folks. I am a real good boy but not much training came my way in my former life. I want to do the right thing and I want to hear my human say, “Good boy. Jackson!” If you want to adopt me, you need to think of me as an overgrown puppy and show me just want you want me to do. I promise I will do my best to please you!\r\n\r\nJackson is a gorgeous 2-3 year old purebred Golden Retriever who craves affection and companionship. He has a goofy, happy-go-lucky, typically sweet Golden personality. When he met our 3 volunteers, he went round and round to each of them, taking turns with who could pet him next. He met another dog at the vet's office and they licked each others' nose, with tails wagging. He grew up around children but with his high level of energy, he might knock over a smaller child. Jackson loves the water and would also make a good running or walking buddy, once he learns some leash manners. With time, patience, and training, Jackson will become an excellent companion. When Jackson rode in the car with our volunteer, Lisa, a pretty heavy storm occurred and he showed no signs of thunder phobia.\r\n\r\nJackson is up-to-date on vaccinations, is neutered, and micro-chipped. He is under treatment for heartworm and will be ready to come north to his forever family in late June or early July. \r\n\r\nIf you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Donna to be considered to adopt Jackson.\r\n\r\nIf not yet approved, please visit our website to lean more and to submit an online application. \r\nAbout Our Rescue
\r\nBefore being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. \r\n\r\n

\r\nThe information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.\r\n\r\n

\r\nSGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**\r\nPuppies under 6 months $650\r\nYoung dogs 6 months - 6 years $550\r\nYoung dogs - Special Needs $450\r\nSenior dogs 7 - 9 years $450\r\nSeniors dogs 10 years and older $350\r\nSenior dogs - Special Needs $300\r\nYoung Bonded Pairs $850\r\nSenior Bonded Pairs $750\r\n\r\n**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement. \r\n\r\n

\r\nA contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. \r\n\r\n

\r\nMany of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. \r\n\r\n

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.\r\n\r\n
