Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Leroy was one of those dogs that got left in bad part of Memphis. He was spotted on the streets there for more that a few weeks. The neighborhood was not kind to him. He was run off, yelled at and stuff was thrown at him. A good samaritan and rescue volunteer had seen him and tried to get him to come to him a few different times.Leroy always ran off. The old man in the neighborhood told John "that dog is mean"but John did buy it.
On the day he was rescued kids were throwing bottles and trash at him. John saw what was going on and yelled at the kids. He called to the dog and to his surprise the dog ran to him and jumped up in the truck . Leroy does not have a mean bone in his body. He is good with other dogs, he is full of play play play. He is ok with cats in his foster home. He is crate trained. He is very quiet in the crate until he sees you and wants out. He is in a very active household. He will settle down when nothing else is going on. Needless to say he has put on a few pounds. He is neutered, current on all shots and microchipped. He would make a great pet.
We adopt dogs from Memphis Animal Shelter when we can. The shelter has an 83% euthanasia rate, one of the highest in the country. Unfortunately, any dog coming from Memphis Animal Shelter, and most other shelters for that matter, will have been in contact with contagious illness. Even though the dogs have been in foster care and appear to be in good health, they may become stressed when changing environments and exhibit signs and symptoms of illness. If you have other pets, they need to be up to date on vaccines before bringing a shelter dog into your home. We will take the adopted animal back, but we are not responsible for your other animal's vet care. We always disclose where the dogs have come from. Please ask for any information about the dogs and exercise due caution if you have immunocompromised animals.
