My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Hershey is a female chocolate lab and is 6 years old. She is a fairly petite girl at 63 pounds. Hershey is a field lab so she is a little smaller than a normal sized Labrador retriever. Hershey loves to be around people. She is very energetic and would work best with kids 13 years old and up. However, Hershey loves all kids but, because of her high energy, adult supervision is recommended for kids younger than 13 or of small stature. Hershey walks well on a gentle leader and also walks on a treadmill!! She is house trained and crate trained and is used to being crated for a work day. Hershey loves to play ball in a fenced in yard. She also loves to play in a kiddy pool. Hershey would prefer to be an only dog although she may do better with a male dog. No cats either—too much fun to chase them. Hershey is trained to sit, stay, shake, wait, lay down, and put a ball in your hand; however like most labs she can be very excited when meeting new people. Hershey loves people and is a high energy Labrador retriever even though she is now 6. A fenced yard is required as she simply loves being outside and retrieving a ball, Frisbee or other toys. Hershey is not a hunting dog but she is an awesome companion! Hershey is spayed, up to date on shots, negative on heartworm and tick borne diseases, worming, and she has a microchip.

Her adoption fee is $350 plus sales tax as required by the state. She is spayed, had a full dental, is up to date on all shots, heartworm prevention and heartworm pills, frontline plus for fleas and ticks, worming and she has a microchip.
• Homeowners: Required
• Status of adopter: 25+
• Previous dog owning experience: Dog experience recommended
• Age of children: Teens but okay with supervised visiting children.
• Another dog in the home: Another dog is NOT advised unless a male dog her size and she must meet the other dog prior to adoption.
• Cat(s) in the home: Other pets in the home are not advised.
• Fenced yard: Is a must! Hershey needs to have room to run and play.
• Time alone on workdays: She previously was created during a normal workday. She would love to spend less time crated.
