Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET SAMMY -
a super sweet, smart and wonderfully loving 4 year old (next month), 7lb. red minature doxie! SAMMY is truly 7 pounds of pure sweetness! He is a special needs doxie, but don't tell him, because he doesn't know it! SAMMY is blind but he has perfect hearing and loves to hear you sing and call his name, in fact...he learned his name in just two hours! Sammy also has a deformity in his back but you would never know it to watch him play, his deformity isn't an issue to him!!! He gets along very well with his foster brothers and sisters, we don't know about cats since there are none in his foster home. He loves to cuddle and especially when he has his nose in the crook of your neck while he is enjoying his favorite thing, being held in your arms and rocked to sleep! He also loves to ride in the car or RV, and travels like a dream. If you have ever had the pleasure of owning a special needs animal, then you will know that they will truly love you with all their heart!!! Hurry and get your applications in because SAMMY will be adopted quickly.
SAMMY will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. Do you think you have room in your family for a VERY loving, special and happy little doxie? If so, SAMMY would love to meet you.
Like all Dachshunds, SAMMY is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, Sammy needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $295, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give SAMMY a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
