My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET LEXI - \r\n\r\nLexi is a very healthy and beautiful, 3.5 year old, 10 lb., chocolate brown, long-haired Dachshund who finds herself needing a new forever home with a loving family. Her previous family’s circumstances have changed dramatically and they can no longer care for her. Lexi’s previous mom said it best: So much has changed in my life in the past year and the decision to surrender my dog has been very difficult but I feel it is my best option for her to find a good home where she can get the love and attention she deserves and to be someone’s housemate and friend.\r\n\r\nLexi is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, has great teeth (gets her teeth brushed weekly) and is house, car and leash trained. \r\n\r\nLexi is good with other dogs and gets along with at least one cat. Lexi is timid and it takes her some time to warm up to strangers but once she does, she loves to roll over and get her tummy scratched. She has had only small amounts of exposure to very small children but there have never been any signs of aggression towards other animals or kids. Lexi seems to prefer women more than men.\r\n\r\nLexi has no behavioral concerns. In fact, as Dachshunds go, you might say she is really ideal. She only barks when the doorbell rings or someone knocks on the door. She understands when it’s time to go to “bed” and goes in the crate. She is learning how to “stay” most of the time but like most doxies, prefers to follow her humans everywhere. Lexi loves to explore outside. She has never been a digger and has never chewed up anything. While no one would say she loves her bath, she does tolerate them well enough, which is great for a long-haired doxie who likes to play outside. \r\n\r\nLEXI will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. Lexi was raised with a brother so she would also do well with a neutered, gentlemanly doxie. \r\n\r\nLike all Dachshunds, LEXI is high energy and enjoys playing and warming her little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around her neighborhood, LEXI needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.\r\n\r\nOUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):\r\n\r\nBased on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues. \r\n\r\nWHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:\r\n\r\nAll our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.\r\n\r\nCan you give LEXI a happy, carefree life that she deserves? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in touch with you within 48 -72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
