My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

HELEN is a 9 year old spayed black female Lab who weighs 41 pounds. Helen is part of the crowd. She is really relaxed and is doing some serious napping which makes us happy. She is comfortable on the dog beds and seeks them out. She does not seem interested in the chickens so far. When the horses were walking by Friday evening Helen was barking at them, we let her get in some good sniffs and is ok with them now. She also is comfortable in the yard with the other dogs. We are so far just joyful to have her here! Helen is approved for kids ages 10+

Update (6/18): Helen (Miss Helen) continues to settle in. She is usually found on a couch, loves antlers, and now hops up in the car and wags her tail when we unload groceries. She has started running around the yard and the Glucosamine is working as she no longer favors it or holds her leg out. She is just fabulous!!! She wants to sleep on our bed and we have convinced her to sleep on Sandy's couch in our bedroom and she happily jumps up there every night after bedtime snacks. She also loves to snuggle in my lap and get ear rubs. She was timid at first and now seems to feel a lot better with gaining weight and understanding the routine I do believe that sometime in the past a male was rough with her. Miss Helen loves people. We have had visitors and she goes up to everyone with a wagging tail and smiling face. We have a new Trane heat pump system that is not working, the technicians have been here every day working on the system and Helen just loves on the man then goes and curls up on the couch and watches him work.
She likes to chase birds, squirrels and the chickens. The chickens' house and runs are in the dog yard and she likes to run up to them and get them to fly up, then she walks off. She has sniffed the horses and ignores them. She does not beg from us when we eat, automatically sits for treats and will offer her paw to you for a snack. She has a very soft mouth. We feed her breakfast on the deck and she wags her tail the whole time she is eating. She is house trained, sleeps all night and does not need to be crated. She walks politely on her easy walk harness. I think Helen would do great in a home with someone retired or working from home where she, be with her people to snuggle and a quiet routine. She will make someone or two a fabulous companion and loving lab!

Update 5/31): (Note: Foster is calling her miss Molly) Miss Molly is part of the crowd. She is really relaxed and is doing some serious napping which makes us happy. She is comfortable on the dog beds and seeks them out. She does not seem interested in the chickens so far. When the horses were walking by Friday evening Miss Molly was barking at them, we let her get in some good sniffs and is ok with them now. She also is comfortable in the yard with the other dogs. We are so far just joyful to have her here! New pictures soon

Update (5/28): Helen has landed very gently and is wonderful. She sits down for treats and takes them very gently, loves being part of everything going on, seems to be pretty well house trained. She is eating well and loves snack times. I keep reassuring her she is safe now and there is nothing but love, food and good things for her. All she wants to do is be with you and get some attention. Not interested in running around an easy walk with you once or twice a day, 2 or 3 meals and a nice bed would be super.

Shelter rescue coordinator says. She is very well behaved, did well on the leash, and did sit on command. She was found in out in the country in Perquimans County the ACO thinks someone took her out there and dumped her. She needs to gain weight we have been feeding her 3 meals a day and she has added about 5 lbs since she came in. She is approved for kids 10+. More info soon!
