My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SHY CATS NEED FOREVER HOMES TOO!

Panda is such a BEAUTIFUL Snowshoe Siamese Mix girl! And, she can be quite the entertainer…you should see her chase the laser mouse! Unlike typical Siamese, she is not a talker. She LOVES to play and cuddle with her brothers, and she has also made friends with the resident foster home cats. She also likes it when her humans play with her with wand toys.

Panda and her littermates were found as strays in a northwest suburb when they were over 2 months old and completely scared since humans had never been a part of their lives. They have all been receiving lots of love in their foster home. Panda is still shy, even with her foster mom. When Panda is in her own room, she is very receptive to being pet. She is also very “kissy” when you pet her! But, Panda does not like to be picked up. She will approach you when she is ready for some loving, with all four paws on the ground. For some reason, when Panda is out of ‘her’ room, she is not so secure and it not receptive to being pet.

Check out her YouTube video to see how sweet Panda is once she gets to know you.

Although Panda has been in a foster home with children, other cats and dogs, I think she would like to be in a quieter home with grown children and adults. She enjoyed interacting with the resident cats, and peacefully co-existed with the dogs .

If you have patience to warm her heart, and gain her trust, she will fill your home with gratitude and warm your heart. It takes a special person to gain the confidence of a shy cat. When a shy cat is moved to a new environment, she will have to start all over to gain the trust of her new family. Interactions with a shy cat will be slow. Initially placing her in a room of her own would be ideal. You will most likely need to make frequent visits to her new room, just sit in a chair or lie on the floor and just talk to her, letting her get to know your voice. Little by little, she will start to get closer and want to be pet. She needs time to learn to trust you. You will need to let her come to you at her own pace. You will need to only pet her when she wants to be petted, and let her walk away if she feels scared. This process could take a week, two weeks, or even months. We will help with this process by providing information to help with the transition. We also found a great book that we will give to you with your adoption: "Miss Hazeltine's Home for Shy and Fearful Cats".

Behaviorally and socially, it’s best to adopt kittens in pairs, or into a home with a playful cat. Panda would really like a playmate in her forever home…and then they can get to play, and snuggle while you're not home. Check out our Pick A Pair page to see if one of her siblings is still available…she especially likes to cuddle with her brother! If there is already another playful cat or kitten in your house, that would work out too…she already proved she is great at making friends!

Panda’s estimated date of birth is 9/8/14. Her adoption fee of $50 includes: her exam, FVRCP vaccinations, FIV & Feline Leukemia testing (neg), routine deworming, flea control, microchip and spay.
