My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Oliver is currently living in Houston, Texas and is available for out-of-state adoption.**

Sweet Oliver is a 2 year old, 55 pound, Yellow Labrador mix and now looking for his forever happiness. We first met this sweet guy when he was brought into the city shelter as a stray. As usual, we can’t believe this gorgeous, healthy boy ended up there! He was really nervous his first couple of days there, but once he realized the people there were nice, he opened up and became a staff favorite instantly. He plans on doing that with his new family as well very soon.

During his stay at the shelter, he was one of the special ones selected into a program that allowed him to work with the volunteers 2-3 times per week on his basic training skills. This is beneficial to him because he was given extra exercise, socialization and it in turn led him out of the shelter and into our care to help him transition into a new family.

Oliver’s history is unknown, but since he’s been in our care, he has been a stellar companion. He is friendly with people, plays well with dogs and has played well with the older children that he’s been introduced to thus far. He hasn’t had the opportunity to meet any very small children, but we feel that his size and play style might be a bit much for little people and very small dogs. He all smiles and very loving and he’s got a full-size zest for life. He’d really enjoy having another active dog to play with either as a sibling or as a frequent visitor to his new home. He’s all about the dog park, so that’s a great outlet too.

His favorite activities thus far are belly and ear rubs, his friends giving him lots of affection and praise and of course, playing outside…especially in the water. He hasn’t visited any lakes or ponds yet, but if his love for those is as great as it is for the kiddie pool, he’s going to be a water dog! Splashing, jumping in and out and chomping at the water...he does it all!

He likes to play with toys, but he’s not a fetch pro yet. So far, we’ve realized that Oliver just seems like a big, silly puppy still. We think that he came from a life that wasn’t lots of fun, so he’s catching up now that he can. We have promised this big love bug that his new life will always be full of affection and companionship.

Oliver is still new to our program and hasn’t had much training yet. With that said, his new owners will have to keep in mind that he’s lived on the streets and hasn’t had the typical upbringing and attention that he deserved. He needs work on the leash still as he pulls when he gets excited, although he seems much better when a harness is used. He is also still learning to wait patiently for his snacks and meals to be prepared. He has already learned “Sit” and “Down” rather well and quickly, so we know he is an intelligent boy and able to learn quickly. His next command we would like to master is “Wait”, but he isn’t 100% there yet.

Oliver’s ideal family is an active, fun-loving group that will include him in every adventure they go on. He would even enjoy running errands and normally day to day things as long as he is with his people. He has lots of playful energy and would be an amazing walking and running partner for someone. He needs someone willing to invest the time to properly train him (and take him to puppy training classes initially) so he can have years of awesomeness and compliments! He likes to romp around the play yard, so we feel that a home with a yard he can goof off in is the best situation for him. He has not yet been tested with cats, so for now we must assume that he needs to live in a family without a cat.

Oliver is crate trained and house broken, neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. He is ready to find that family that will love him endlessly. He is currently living in Houston, Texas and he is available for out-of-state adoption. His adoption fee is $450, which includes his airline flight, travel crate and comfy travel bed. If you need a fabulous companion and have the time to spend with him, Oliver is the perfect boy for you. Please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org if you have any questions or would like more information about him.
