Smokey's Story...
Smokey here! I am a sweet natured and quietly affectionate fellow. I had a bit of a rough start in life, I was rescued from a home that had too many animals in it and a few of my friends and I were lucky enough to end up all safe and sound at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter. I am happy to say there are lots of good, kind and loving people out there who help cats like me make our way into new homes. Once I feel safe I love to get your attention and be patted or have scratches behind my ears and under my chin. When I have to move into a new space I am a bit nervous and take a while to settle in so at first it can seem like I am a reserved fellow but once I feel confident and secure the love muffin comes right out! I have lived with other cats and enjoy their company so wouldn't mind a new feline friend or two. So here I am just waiting to meet my soul mate, do you think it could be you?

Before making the trip to visit the shelter we strongly recommend checking our website for information on adoption policies and procedures. Please understand that because we are a busy place and because so many animals need our care and attention, adoptions are on a first come basis and no animal will be put on hold. To inquire about a pet's availability or for more information, we encourage you to visit our shelter in person. Due to the high volume of interest, email and phone inquiries may not be returned on a daily basis. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to your visit! www.capeannanimalaid.org 978-283-6055 ex 10 for reception desk.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Smokey, a Gloucester Domestic Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Domestic Shorthair for sale in Gloucester, or seeking a Domestic Shorthair cat from a breeder in Gloucester.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Gloucester already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Gloucester breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Domestic Shorthair breeders who help with Domestic Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Gloucester paves the way for another one to be saved.
