My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This very handsome one year old boy arrived on June 6th weighing in at approx. 53 lbs. Pictures do not due the BEAUTIFUL boy justice. He is as sweet and gentle as he is gorgeous. Koda cautiously explored his new yard and home. He was more relaxed once he met his two canine foster siblings. He was happy to run around the yard and play with them. Koda went on a few walks. He is great on the leash. He was calm but reserved when meeting people but happily greeted other dogs and their owners. Koda takes treats gently and I was able to put my hand in the bowl as he was eating. I introduced him to his crate which he was not initially happy about but entered on his own as I started writing this. He is now resting after a long day inside his crate with the door open.

UPDATE: Koda slept quietly through the night in his crate with the door open. He waited to be let outside to relieve himself. Koda checked out the entire house today. He enjoyed playing with the toys he took out of the basket and did not engage in any unwanted behavior. Koda met the neighbor's cat and paid little attention to it. He also met several small children. He leaned against me for assurance but was calm as they boys were petting him. He was very good with them. In just one day, we would say that he is a sweet, cautious boy who just needs time to adjust. He has melted the hearts of many in a very short time.

UPDATE: We went to visit the neighbor and her cats for the second time. Koda was well behaved and the cats were not at all threatened by his presence. We then took a short walk to the lake. Koda put his feet in the water but did not show any interest in going any further. Then it was bath time in the yard. He was not too thrilled with the process but was compliant and easily manageable. Overall he is low energy inside the house.

UPDATE: Koda has settled nicely into the household routine. His manners are excellent and have earned him free roam of the house when we are home. He can be trusted out of the crate for short periods when we are not home. We go on several walks each day. He has met many new people and dogs. Koda has been perfectly behaved with everyone. He knows the sit and come commands. We are currently working on down and stay. Koda let me trim his nails today. He sat nicely without even flinching. When I am working in the kitchen he will lay down in a near by but out of the way. When I am on the computer he will go into his crate to relax. Outside he displays more energy. He loves playing with my younger dog and chasing sticks and balls.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete and submit an application. Be sure to list the dog's names that you are interested in on the first question within the application. Please be sure your application is complete. The 1st question asks which dogs you are interested in. To see additional dogs, see our adoptable pet list at www.sherylsden.org

This animal is currently fostered in a private home. Our rescue is 100% foster home based. We do not have a shelter or kennel. They are cared for by a loving family until adopted. Each pup has had their first vet exam, a shot, and de-worming, etc We make sure they have no fleas prior to going into our foster homes. They are fostered out of the shelter at least two weeks or more prior to adopting to monitor health. We take their care seriously! Please note that the adoption appointments will be scheduled after your application is approved. Once adopted, feel free to change the dog's name. You do not have to keep the name listed in this post.

All dogs over 6 months are spayed/Neutered, rabie shot, heartworm tested, parvo distemper shot, and dewormed. IF YOU ADOPT a pup and live in the State of New Jersey we do have low cost spaying and neutering at very affordable prices. Kindly inquire upon an approved application. We also have an affordable program for out of state adopters.

We also offer low cost micro-chipping! For a low fee of only 20.00 we will have your dog microchipped. You will be able to register the microchip for a low cost fee of only 10.99 at the time of the adoption appointment. The 10.99 fee is a ONE time registration fee. The microchip is for the lifetime of the dog. You have the ability to update the contact information at NO cost. You will also have a one year membership to Home Again. This is a big savings for you.

***** If you're interested in fostering we could always use the help to save more animals. A crate, food, and medical care are provided. The animals are picked up in West Milford, NJ and brought back here for adoption. The time commitment is two to two and a half weeks. Please email letting us know what town you live in and we will forward information to you. *****

Sheryl's Den has teamed up with Petfirst Health care in an effort to offer pet insurance for your adopted family member. If you wish, you can enroll once you adopt. Your coverage will begin following your activation. The first 30 days are free! There is no cost to the adopter for this 30-day protection (This program is available in all US states and Washington DC, but not NY at this time) The 30-day coverage plan ensures the pets adopted are covered for accidents and illnesses. This plan provides $1,000 aggregate/ $500 per-incident limit of accident and illness protection. It reimburses 100% of vet bills after a $50 per-incident deductible. To activate the insurance, pet parents must call 1-855-710-7387. The insurance is not active until the adopter activates it, and is not retroactive to the date of the adoption. Once their insurance is active, they use the veterinarian of their choice and submit their bills for reimbursement, which PetFirst processes in as little as two weeks. Adopters have the option to extend or upgrade their coverage at the time of activation.
