My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Beatrice, or as we like to call her, Honey Bea or Sweet Bea because she is such a sweetheart! Bea is a 2 year old Shih Tzu weighing approximately 15 lbs. She is a beautiful cream colour with a bit of curly coat and a fluffy tail. She has the best smile when she’s happy and the cutest under bite! Bea was a stray dog found in a rural area where her previous owners likely let her go because they did not want to deal with an ear infection that had gotten out of control. Bea is now fully recovered and healthy and is looking for her forever home.

She has been such an easy dog to care for. No accidents in the house, she goes into her crate easily and had no problem taking medication. We can’t believe she was abandoned, but on the plus side she is going to make a great addition to the right family who will give her the home she deserves.

Bea is currently living with two cats and a bearded dragon, which she finds fascinating, though they do not reciprocate! We think she would do best as the only pet in the home or with well-behaved pets that would like to play. She’s not shy at all and is very friendly with people.

Bea is an easy going, people loving dog. She always wants to be where the action is - she does not like to be left alone. However she doesn’t need constant stimulation, she’s happy to just hang out in the room where you are and will sit quietly out of the way. She wants to make her people happy and because of that she has responded well to training. Her new family will need to keep working with her and praise her to reinforce good behaviour.

She does well in her crate during the day, with a break at lunch time. She rarely makes a peep in the crate at night. If she was the only pet in the house we think she would be fine to freely roam during the day and curl up at your feet at night. Bea walks fairly well on a leash and is comfortable with waiting and going. She does have a bit of an overly inquisitive nose and gets distracted easily, but with a little guidance she’s getting better. She also knows how to sit and we are working on leave it, down, come and she could definitely learn to kiss as she loves giving nose kisses! She’s a small dog, but has the stamina to take long walks and play in the yard. Bea is even learning to fetch! She loves running and playing in the yard with her people. Bea isn’t a dog that requires a lot of activity to be happy but she really loves her walks and adores spending time exploring in the yard.

She has the sweetest personality and makes us smile every day. If you are looking for a loyal companion who is easygoing yet up for adventure, Bea may be the dog for you!

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
