My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DOB May 21, 2013

Anubis is a curious and bold cat who's had a tough early life on the streets and therefore tends to be somewhat high-strung. But if you give him lots of space and quiet and time to get to trust you, his affectionate and playful side really comes out. Once he's learned to trust you, he's the kind of cat who follows you around everywhere. Not a lap-cat, but always at your feet, and happy to accept head-scratches from time to time.
Anubis loves to play - particularly by himself! He's very self-sufficient, and has many beloved toys. He has a favourite string toy that he'll carry on his back and wind around himself when he feels like playing - spinning in circles to catch the end! He loves to rest upside-down, and now that he trusts his foster mom, will accept some fuzzy tummy kisses when he's too sleepy to move. He's also been known to crawl under the blankets at night: a lovely foot-warmer!
Anubis was a stray who was rescued and neutered at around 1 year old. As an older semi-feral cat, this means he has trouble trusting humans, and in particular cannot tolerate other animals or lots of noise and strange people in his space (in those situations, he is prone to fear-aggression). He clearly had a tough early life, which has given him lingering health problems as well as anxiety issues.
Anubis came to the shelter with multiple, badly-healed fractures to both back legs, likely from malnutrition. He's perfectly healthy now, but his gait is bowlegged and his hips in particular were seriously damaged. As a young active cat, he manages to get around fine on his wobbly legs and is not in any pain, but his owner should plan on the need for x-rays and surgical intervention on his hips or at least pain-management in the future as wear-and-tear takes its toll.
His owner should also watch out that he can't jump up and down too high (he's too curious for his own good - he's been known to fall off of counters!), and stairs would be difficult for him. He loves to sit in the windowsill, so his foster mom has set up a system of graduated steps to the window for him to get up and down. He'll show you what he needs.
Anubis is a very special cat who's looking for a quiet, peaceful home and a patient, dedicated owner. In the many months that his foster mom has been working with him, his posturing and anxiety has decreased and a loving, playful cat has started to emerge. Anu has shown that he's more than a damaged street-cat; he's a darling boy with a lot of love to give, who just needs a chance to have the peaceful, pain-free life he deserves. Will you give him that chance?
