Kloe is a loving and affectionate four-year-old, all Brindle (with some white markings) Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, weighing about 12 to 13 pounds. In 2013, Kloe ended up abandoned in a gated-community apartment complex, but the people who found the frightened and hungry “Chiweenie” put up signs and advertised on the Internet trying to find her people. We suspect her family moved out and left her behind to fend for herself. After a while, the people who found her realized no one was going to claim her, and they contacted SCDR for help finding Kloe a permanent home. Kloe was subsequently adopted, but a recent health crisis in the family rendered her adoptive parents no longer able to care for her, and thus, Kloe was returned to rescue to find another loving home.
Kloe is initially shy and somewhat tentative if she does not yet know you, but she has demonstrated on several occasions that she will warm up quickly to friendly people and dogs, and will adjust very quickly to a new home environment within a day or two at the most. Her coat is healthy, soft and smooth, and like many dogs of her brindle coloring, she appears to be a very minimal shedder. Kloe loves to lie on a pet bed near you while you are working in the office, or jump up on your lap to give kisses or be petted. She loves being cuddled and can easily sleep on the human bed as she is not squirmy and settles in nicely to watch T.V. with you or go to sleep.
Kloe is crate-trained, reliably house-trained, and knows how to use a dog door. She has been through a lot, and despite everything, she is still a loving little girl. She is protective of her home and her people, and will alert bark and announce a stranger’s presence. Though cautious around new people, she does not react in a negative way (no biting or growling). She has lived in various environments with multiple dogs, and shows no aggression towards any of them and lives peaceably among them. All in all, Kloe is a very well behaved dog who knows basic commands and is very obedient upon instruction.
Kloe would be a great dog for a family with older gentle children, for recent retirees who just want the consummate “lap dog” or for any viable candidate who wants a nice, friendly primarily Dachshund type. Kloe walks well on a leash and is good in the car. Kloe has shown herself to be safe with cats! She had a cat-friend in her former home, and they enjoyed sleeping together in the big bed at night, and sharing the sofa during the day.
Although Kloe is a mixed breed dog, she still has the body conformation of primarily dachshund, so a single story household is best. A huge plus is that Kloe knows how to use the little doggy steps to get up and down from the sofa and the big bed. Her absolutely favorite spot is to perch on the top of the sofa with a clear view of whatever is going on outside or within the home.
Kloe is healthy. She is spayed, her vaccines are up-to-date, and she is ready to snuggle with you on the sofa or in your bed, take walks with you or go on little outings. If you are interested in Kloe, please contact Dena at (562) 694-6868 or email Dena@SCDR.org. An adoption application and home check are required.
