My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Patches is a one year old who has gone through a lot the last couple of months. He came from Kentucky and owes his recovery and surgery to a fellow dog lover. Patches was hit by a car and had a serious injury to his back leg. They tried to save the leg but ultimately it had to be amputated. We don't know anything about his life before he was hit. He was fostered while he recovered, and was described as spoiled and sweet..

It is truly amazing how mobile and agile Patches is with 3 legs. He isn't in pain and it doesn't slow him down. He shouldn't have any medical complications because of the leg. He hops in the car and goes down the stairs to go outside. He is house trained and goes to the door. He is indifferent about the cat and curious about the other dogs.

Patches is very sweet and shy at first. He likes to have a safe place to be and watch life until he gets the confidence to come out and participate. I have not had to crate him. He goes outside with me a couple times a day for a short romp and then takes a nap. He may become more active as he adjusts, but I think low key will be his energy level.

There are a lot of misconceptions about hounds. I think Patches is mostly a tri-colored Coonhound. You can look up the breed but I have included both some personal and breed information.

The Coonhound is good with children and gets along with other dogs. Training is accomplished with little trouble, as these dogs are able to learn from example. They thrive on consistent and ample attention. They are loving and eager to please, the Coonhound is intelligent, skilled and confident. They are a nice mix because if you want to walk they are very willing to walk for as long as you would like but they really are couch potatoes looking for warmth and lazing on a comfortable spot. Coonhounds don't bark much but they can howl. Mine usually do this to alert me to something and it isn't often.

Despite only having 3 legs Patches would make a sweet, loving, gentle addition to a family. He is an easy addition to our home.
