My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BRAZIL is a 1 1/2 year old spayed yellow female Lab who weighs 57 pounds. Brazil has just made a big transition she went from if I stand real still no one will notice me scared to okay this isn't such a bad life after all. Since we got her she has been very quiet and wasn't interested in much when people were around. She was good at the vet and the Animal Care folks says she was quiet and had started to respond to their petting. Picked her up this morning and took her to Roxanne's Rehab Spa where she met Roxanne and Cheyenne, within 15 minutes her whole body posture changes it went from scared to relaxed as she realized she was in a safe place. Watching the way she relaxed around Cheyenne I think she needs to be with another dog. If anyone is looking for an easy going companion she is their dog Knows sit and come, working on other commands. Okay on lead, owner will need to go slow. Also house broken and crate trained.. Shelter vet says: ACO's caught 2 dogs way out in the country who appear to have been dumped. They both came in loaded with ticks so he thinks they had been on their own for a while. One is a yellow female who we are calling Brazil about 18 month old and doesn't have a tail. She was with a Brindle bull mastiff looking male, who we are calling Berlin, he about 12 months old and is probably her son, he will be adopted separately as they don't seem bonded. Both were very shy and scared when they caught and are warming up. Neither had any idea about walking on a lead, so we are working on trust, confidence, relaxing, and a bit on the leash thing. They now will go outside for walks and are more relaxed and affectionate with the staff. I think she will be fine with everyone one she gains some confidence that she isn't going to be dumped again. Good with other dogs. Unknown with cats. . Brazil is approved for kids ages 10+.

Update (11/16): Brazil continues to come out of her shell. Her foster mom notices progress everyday. New situations still scare her but the more positive experiences she has the better she does. She plays well with the resident labs and has learned a few new games: kick ball and "steal all the inside toys and bring them outside so Foster mama can pick them up and bring them inside again." This is clearly her favorite game and she loves to repeat it. She crates like a dream and enjoys laying on the couch or a dog bed near her Foster mama. Her absolutely favorite thing is to snuggle in bed with her humans and k9 friends at night.

Update (10/5): Sweet , shy Brazil continues to come out of her shell. Once she does, she is quite the comedian. She will play bow and wag her little nub. She is starting to learn how to play and has become quite the toy hoarder. She enjoys moving the “inside” toys outside. Brazil is going to need a quiet home without quick movements as they scare her. She needs time to warm up to the humans and once she does, you will be rewarded with laughter. She is fully house trained, crate trained and we are working on the basic commands. She will need patient humans who accept her for who she is – are Brazil’s perfect match. She enjoys her dog bed but, at night she is all about snuggling with her human in the “big” bed.

Update (9/10): Brazil is slowly coming out of her shell. This weekend she learned that she could be a dog! Yup, that is right- a dog, rather than a frozen scared pup. Brazil is a shy little girl waiting for her perfect family. They will need to understand that they need to move slowly with Brazil. She is still shy, but learning every day that humans are okay. Her new family will have to go slow with her and understand that new things still scare her. She has perfect house manners. She doesn’t touch anything that doesn’t belong to her. She is crate trained. She likes the crate however, foster Mama has been letting her alone in the house and she is perfect. She loves squeaky toys. She also loves to hoard them. ;) One never knows when they may run out. She is “working” on taking treats gently. This has a lot to do with her fear – she just wants to take it and run. She has a great appetite and eats all of her kibble. She is working on basic commands, but will come into the house with the other dogs when called. She loves to lay on her doggie bed but, at night it is all about the human bed and maybe a little cuddle time with the scary human. She loves chin pets – especially when you are not moving. She loves other dogs. She has started to play with them but, mainly looks at them as a gage to see if everything is okay. She will need a fenced yard. She has a very sweet disposition and is curious about everything.

Update (8/14): Sweet little Brazil takes time to come out of her shell. She is shy around humans and looks to other dogs just to get a feel of what to do and how they are gaging you. She just started to slowly play with the resident fosters dog (which is after three weeks). Brazil loves to follow her human around after she gets used to you. After she feels comfy, she will follow you from room to room and no longer look for the other dogs for guidance. She is still very unsure if you try to pet her so that will take time and patience on the part of the new owner. Brazil LOVES bed time – in the human bed. This is the way that she has built a bond with her foster Mom. She loves to be petted under the chin – on her own time of course. At night she is snuggly when allowed to get on the bed and close to you. She needs time, love and patience in new situations. She is completely house trained and enjoys the fenced yard. She has now started to discover toys but, is still not so sure what to do with them. She has not touched anything she is not supposed to. She is still coming out of her shell. More to come on this girl.

Update (7/13): Brazil is settling into the routine at her Fosters. She is a little bit on the shy side and will take a bit to warm up to so her new owners need to be patient and go slow with her. Once they do they will be well rewarded with tail wags, gentle kisses and nuzzles. Brazil absolutely loves other dogs! She feels much more confident around them. She is has excellent house manners and does well in the crate. She loves to run around in the back yard and will chase the ball if you throw it – she is just not sure about bringing it back to you but she will get it close enough to you to throw again. Smart girl!
