My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When I look in her eyes It ain't no surprise Sparks start a flyin' like the 4th of July. When I light the fuse, I gotta get back quick You gotta be careful with a dynamite stick. We got a good thing going and if feels so right She's a Firecracker She's the light of my life. from 'Firecracker' by Josh Turner
Ever hear the phrase dynamite comes in small packages? That's our little sweetheart Topaz! Topaz is a brindle Basenji Dutch Shepherd mix about a year old and full grown at a whopping 20 lbs. Don't be fooled by the tiny size though.this little girl can run like the wind and jump higher than Mexican jumping bean. She has all the makings of a great Frisbee dog (with training of course). Topaz would be a great candidate for an agility training course. Her speed. endurance, and fun loving spirit would be perfect for an active person or family. She plays long and hard with her equally energetic foster siblings and does pretty good with leaving the older grumpy dogs alone. She is respectful of cats but will play if invited (the resident kitty is a bit mischievous). Topaz loves to snuggle up after giving an abundant amount of 'I love you' kisses. She adores the 8 year old boy that visits and does not waste the opportunity to share her space on the couch with him (complete with kisses of course). Topaz gears her play towards the playmate. She is absolutely fearless but will graciously submit when a foster sibling wins at play (including the 12 lb puppy that rolls her over). She is becoming more comfortable walking on leash. Initially she was petrified of it, but now sees it can be a fun thing especially when it means a ride in the truck. Topaz gets exceptionally high marks for crate training (the most well behaved foster mom has had to date). She has wonderful house manners, never destructive (but keep LOTS of toys on hand). It took about a week for her to become accident free which is not uncommon when a pup has been in a shelter environment for several weeks. She has access to a doggy door to do her business as needed. Topaz has free run of the house at night when it's calm and quiet but has been crated while foster mom is at work because she was recently spayed (she did well with free run of the house prior to surgery). Topaz must exercise control at feeding time as there are several other dogs in foster. She must wait her turn and sit nicely before eating. This little darling is fun to watch and interact with, her playful antics will undoubtedly keep you on your toes. As mention previously, she is already spayed, she is also up to date on all vaccinations and current on all preventatives. Couch potatoes need not apply. Topaz is indeed a little firecracker with a beautiful sparkling loving personality. She loves life and enjoys living it to the fullest. If you are ready to play and have some fun then Topaz will surely be the light of your life
