My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

~adoption fee applies~

My name is Whiskey! It's what my family put on the paperwork when they left me at the pound on June 1st, my family that I loved with my whole heart and soul who brought me to their local pound and just left me behind! They filled out the paperwork and the reason they were abandoning me was because they said they were moving to a new place where I was not allowed to join them. The employee at the pound shook her head and took me away, but I really did not want to go down that hallway or down those stairs to the basement where I could hear all the other dogs crying and barking.
I was very scared and everyone at the pound was so very worried about me as I just hid in my cage wishing my life away. Everyday felt like forever in there and everyday my spirit broke a little more.
But after 17 long days something very special happened! CAA Rescue got an email about me, and a very kind woman saw my photo and said she wanted to help me! On a Thursday afternoon, while I hid in my cage hoping they would not notice that I was still there… this special lady and her husband were on route to get me. Then a woman came to my cage and opened the door up and attached a leash to my collar. I had been in that kennel for too long and I was so very terrified. I did not want to die!! I struggled with her but finally she led me up the stairs… I recognized those stairs! And then she led me down the hallway, and I recognized that hallway!!! And when we reached the end there was a wonderful gentle woman standing there. She said she was from CAA Rescue and she wanted to take me home to foster me! I had no idea what any of that meant but anything was better than my cage – so I trusted her.
I got to my foster home and while nervous I did allow my foster mummy to give me a bath. Then I got an early dinner and a nice walk with my two little Chihuahua foster bros! Then I totally crashed out and slept all the way through until morning!! I never ever slept so long and deep and sweet ever in my life.

My foster mama says that I am & I quote, “Soooo friggen sweet!” I am very gentle with her two doggies who are much, much smaller than me, as I am a pretty big boy.
Currently in foster care I show no signs of food or toy possession or aggression with dogs or people, but I am a bit nutty for treats!!
I have been briefly tested around cats and appear uninterested.
I respond well to basic commands, can sit, wait, and even shake paws- check out my video!
I was never tested with children but my calm nature tells me that I probably won’t have issues with gentle children 10 years old and up.

I am totally house trained (though may mark at first in a new place). I won't even mess up your yard as I seem to only like doing my business on walks!
The beagle in me likes to do what comes naturally: put my nose to the ground and investigate all the smells. So although I have
been getting much better with my leash skills while in foster care, I can still pull if I get on a nice smelly trail.
While I am not overly affectionate at first, I eventually become a very snuggly boy who loves nothing more than to lay around belly up with you on the couch.
And while I do need to lose some weight, CAA Rescue and my foster family are not very concerned about it as I am already steady losing lbs now that I'm on a controlled diet and go for daily walks.
For a beagle I am pretty darn quiet, though I will bark some when left alone. I am working on kennel training to help with a bit of separation anxiety. I'm doing great at it and will go right in on my own for a yummy stuffed Kong.

I am looking for a beagle loving family who is not away from home too much, and who are looking for a new best friend for the rest of my life. For those other families who are not experienced with beagles please do take a moment to read up on my general characteristics. While I am pretty ZEN as far as beagles go there is still a lot to know and love about my special breed.

If you would like to meet me or learn more about me please email CAARescue@gmail.com and ask them for an application. Maybe you were always meant to be my forever family and I just had to wait five long years before you found me!
