My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Poor little blind boy Lewis turned out to be in much worse shape than originally suspected...once the huge painful mat was shaved off his face, the vet discovered once of his non-functioning eyes was painfully infected and had been for a long time. He needed both of his eyes removed and the area flushed out, and is on heavy duty antibiotics to hopefully clear up the severe infection. He probably suffered from painful eye infections his entire life without getting proper medical care and the matting just made it worse. As if that wasn't bad enough, he also had a large mass under his tail that needed to be removed, and heart murmur and is underweight and needed a dental cleaning and several rotted teeth pulled. He's definitely much older than the 3 years his owner claimed and is a senior probably around 8 year old. He made it through surgery today and is recovering at the vet and we're hoping he will finally have a chance to enjoy his life without the chronic discomfort he's experienced his whole life. He's very thin under his mats- his previous owner said the other dogs in the home used to attack him and not let him eat! as if letting him fall down the stairs and neglecting to groom him wasn't bad enough!

We weren't expecting to be hit with another large vet bill so soon after so many other medical cases we've rescued recently, but he needed urgent care and we could never have left him behind once we saw him in the pound. Please consider donating toward Lewis's care, it's only because of your support that we can continue to help so many neglected little ones! Donated through paypal at www.secondchance.petfinder.com or mail to Second Chance Pet Adoption League, P.O. Box 221, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. Thank you!

We do not have a shelter- all our pets are in foster homes and can be seen by appointment only during the week, or at our weekly pet adoptions every Sunday at the Animal Clinic of Morris Plains from 12:30 to 3PM at 3009 Route 10 East next to 5 Star Car Wash (formerly Boulder Car Wash) in Morris Plains (Denville on GPS). To help us better match a pet to your household, we request you fill out an application on our homepage www.secondchance.petfinder.com and copy and paste it into an email, or print it and bring it to our adoption day when you come. Local inquiries only please- we do not do long distance adoptions.
