MEET ZEKE
Zeke is a very handsome, well-behaved 3.5 year old, 13 lb, smooth red tweenie Dachshund who is full of love and affection. He is good with both cats and dogs, though he shies away from smaller children (never bites or growls – just hides from them). He is a very friendly, happy boy and knows basic commands. ZEKE is house trained, car trained and leash trained and LOVES to go for walks and rides in the car. When you take him for walks, he gets so excited that he pulls for a little while until he calms down then he's just fine. He also loves to play with balls and he'll come running when he hears a hair dryer. He likes to stand between your legs until you pet him. ZEKE will comfortably sleep with his humans too, so he will keep you company and keep you warm. Speaking of warm, Zeke enjoys wearing sweaters during the winter, he tends to run on the cool side and can shiver.
ZEKE’s previous family has experienced some recent changes in circumstance so they’re no longer able to care for him and they’ve asked Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. to help Zeke find a loving forever family. Zeke will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, Zeke is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, Zeke needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
