Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MEET TEDDY B -adopted 7/8/2015
Teddy B is an absolutely gorgeous 5.5 year old, 10 lb, long-haired, red male Dachshund, who finds himself needing a new, loving, forever kind of family. He was just rescued at the last minute from being euthanized. He is new to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc., so don’t have a lot of details yet, but we’re having him fully examined at the vet and evaluated by a doggie behavioral specialist to see if there is anything we need to work on before you take him home as the newest member of your family. We can tell you that Teddy B He enjoys going for walks and riding in the car. He knows how to sit and lie down on command and asks to be let outside when he needs to go out. Like most Dachshunds, Teddy B really just loves to be with his people and will lie right next to you. He’s also a good eater, enjoying a healthy new diet at the rescue. He hasn’t been around children and doesn’t do well with cats (he enjoys chasing them, and they don’t like it when he does), but he does do pretty well with other dogs. Teddy B will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds.
Like all Dachshunds, Teddy B is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, TEDDY B needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
Can you give TEDDY B a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
