Here's what the humans have to say about me:
DIXIE is a 1.5 year old intact black female Lab who weighs 56 pounds. Dixie is a wonderful girl, she recently had 8 puppies. She was a really good Mom who kept a close eye on her pups to make sure they were safe. Everybody who came to visit the pups wanted to meet her and they all loved her. Dixie has a wicked lab lean and thinks she should be a Lap-lab. She likes retrieving and in pretty good about bringing it back. She does pick up inappropriate things on occasion, but is learning not too. She needs a family that will give her the exercise and training she needs. They should have a physical fence as she would break thorough and underground fence as she has a high prey drive. Good with other dogs, lived with 3 hounds and Hank. No cats, chases squirrels and will probably do the same with cats. Knows some basic commands, like most young labs, she will need training so will have a Training addendum. Pulls some on a lead better with an Easy Walk harness. She is being crate trained and is almost house trained. Will have a spay addendum as she is intact.
Dixie story is an owner give up to Lab Rescue. The Animal Control Officer got a call about a dog fight at a neighbor's house she was told there were two labs and 3 hounds all fighting. She went out and found that the female lab was very pregnant and just had her first pup, she was trying to keep the males who were very excited away from her baby. The ACO separated all the dogs and found the owner who was at work, he told her he was watching Dixie & Hank, the Labs, for a friend for the last few months. Their owner had to move because of work and couldn't take them with him and was going to get them later this summer. The owner of the property told the ACO he couldn't take proper care of the mother and babies so she took Dixie, the 3 pups she had by then and Hank to the ACO headquarters. She got a pool for a whelping pen and put Dixie in it where she had the rest of her litter of 8 pups. She called me later that night and asked if we would take them if she could get the owner to turn them over to us, told her yes. She got hold of the owner that night and he agreed we could take them. She is approved for kids 10+.
Update (7/20): Dixie is adjusting well in her new foster home as she recovers from her spay. She is a energetic girl and would love a yard to play in. Her coat is improving, she has a great lab lean, and is a constant companion.
Update (7/6): Dixie such a good girl! She is now housetrained and crate trained. She will go into the crate without having a cookie tossed in and then once in the crate, she waits for her cookie. She is pretty quiet in the crate and her fosters have never heard her bark while in there. She loves to retrieve the tennis ball and is getting good about giving it back. She sleeps well through the night in bed with her fosters. She is a great dog! She occasionally does her zoomies around the yard to get some energy out. She is a little lover, loves to give you kisses and nibbles on your ear gently. She still thinks she should be a lap lab.
