Arthur arrived at Toronto Cat Rescue as “Art,” but quickly made it clear to his foster that he is “Arthur.” He’s nearly 15 lbs of laid back and cool! He loves attention and likes to hang out wherever the people are. He also loves to sleep on the bed and be within petting reach. And he’s a “kisser”!
He’s very playful and enjoys all the toys that are available in his foster home – especially the laser pointer. At first, Arthur pined for the outdoors but now he’s happy with a window and lots of indoor play. Arthur’s litter habits are excellent and he uses the scratching post faithfully. He loves food and clearly is familiar with the sound of a treat bag being opened.
Soon after arriving in foster care, Arthur was diagnosed with crystals in his urine. After six weeks of special food he was re-tested and his result were clear. Arthur should stay on the special food (readily available at your vet), or at least some of it, to guard against a recurrence of the crystals. He seems to like the kibble more, but enjoys a bit of the wet food, too. People food, which he’s clearly had in the past, is an absolute no-no for Arthur.
There are some indications that Arthur has been harshly treated in the past, though it hasn’t diminished his love of people. A gentle and quiet “no” is all that is needed to discourage any unwanted behaviour.
Arthur is an easy-going guy who is mostly friends with the resident cats in his foster home. It’s clear he’s been used to being in charge, though. He’d do best on his own or with a careful introduction to a submissive cat. He’s not keen on having his authority challenged. He tolerates the calm dog who occasionally visits.
He has had some interaction with visiting kids and he was great. But since he's a big boy and has been an outdoor cat in the past, it would be best to introduce him to any children in your family before adopting him, to make sure they get along.
This affectionate big boy has a lot of love to give to the right family!
