Birthdate: July 18, 2014. Meet Pocahontas!! Pocahontas was rescued in Puerto Rico and flown all the way to Michigan to find her forever home. Her mother was thrown out on the street to starve in Puerto Rico until she was rescued. Pocahontas was born in foster care and is an extremely sweet and tender dog. She is great with other dogs, cats and people of all ages. She weighs about 40 lbs.
Pocahontas update! Pocahontas was adopted out on July 18, 2015. Per this family she kept escaping, even though they were told not to leave her unattended in the yard. She spent two days at the Macomb County Animal Control when they finally picked her up. The shelter staff told them she had been vomiting since she got there. The family took her to a vet and had an X-ray done and found some metal lodged in her. They called us and just said we don't have the money for this. I asked why they didn't crate her or use a tie out. They really didn't care. I had them take her to Wilson's Veterinary Care where they did immediate surgery on her. They removed a huge fake plant from her stomach, throat and intestines. She has a very long road to back to recovery. She had lost 10 pounds in the month they had her, so clearly this was not a recent issue. She is currently healing at her foster home, taking 5 different medications a day and eating like a horse.
