My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JACKSON is a 6 year old neutered yellow male Lab who weighs 73 pounds. Jackson is a big, handsome lab looking for a family to give him direction and exercise and lots of love! We are told Jackson is a Canadian-bred lab named after Stonewall Jackson. Go figure! He is a gorgeous hunk of yellow sunshine, very gentle, and smart. Jackson's previous owner hunted with him in the past so he likes to swim and retrieve. He knows a few commands such as sit and shake. Jackson is very affectionate and loves to give kisses. He's got a great lab lean and enjoys people and other dogs. He loves to swim, retrieve, and carry around big sticks! Jackson is a strong guy and pulls on a lead. An EZ Walk harness will assist in walking him until he can get consistent exercise and training. Due to his previous owner's failing health, Jackson has been kept in a pen outside with his buddy, a Brittany Spaniel. It seems the Brittany wanted to go visit some nearby chickens so Jackson obliged by digging them out of the pen. So, on a chain he went. Prior to living in a pen and being chained, Jackson lived inside so may be house trained. Jackson traveled well in a crate -- got right in and was quiet for the ride -- so is probably crate trained. Jackson was good around the grandchildren but we don't know their ages. From the transporter: Jackson was very good in the car. He stayed in the back seat with the transporter's daughter and was quiet --- no barking, no fussing. He's apparently a lover because he couldn't resist kissing the daughter most of the way! Jackson was an owner surrender to rescue due to the owner having health problems and no longer able to properly care for him. He is approved for kids 10+.

Update (7/26): Jackson is doing fine. He is taking his pills like a champ and eating happily without any problems. Poor guy is on bed rest from his recent surgery for the next couple of weeks. He is taking it like a pro, no complaints, just gives us the puppy face to plead for a while and then just falls asleep, really good boy. We are working on walking on a leash- he is very strong but getting better. He is very friendly. He does not mind cats, just sniffed our barn cat and moved on. He is a great boy and his new family will fall in love with him.
