**Benjamin is currently living in Houston, Texas with a wonderful foster mom, but would like to start his life over with a new great family. He is available for local OR out-of-state adoption.**
Sweet Benjamin is estimated to be 5 years old and 70 pounds. He is a Yellow Lab Mix with the cutest, most expressive ears. He was brought into the Houston City Pound and was at risk of not making it out, but one of our volunteers met him and knew that his family was out there somewhere…just waiting for this gem to come home.
Benny is great with children and all other dogs, so he’d be a perfect addition to almost any family. He has not yet been tested around any cats, but his foster mom has pot-bellied pigs and he likes to chase them around, so we think he might like to play chase with cats too.
His favorite thing to do is to just gallop around the back yard and enjoy living life as a loved pet. It doesn’t seem that he had the carefree life in his past that he so deserves. As much as he likes running in the yard, he’s not proven to be an excellent running partner so far. He doesn’t play with the balls that he has been given, but he carries his Nylabone just about everywhere he goes. It’s his prized possession these days! He will lie on his side and just chew away at that bone. He loves snacks during the day and takes them gently out of hands and he is kind and mild with all things in his life.
Benjamin is fairly affectionate with people and will lie next to you on the floor or on the couch, but he doesn’t snuggle with the other dogs. He likes his space away from them when it’s time for his beauty sleep. He loves a good belly rub and can sit, heel and waits for his command to eat his meals. Car rides are a joy for Benjamin and he’s very good while riding as a passenger.
This sweet boy would really fit into any family dynamic and would adapt easily. He is a very mellow, laid back boy. He is still getting used to one thing in this new life and that is being alone. He doesn’t like to be by himself at all yet and will cry and bark if there is not a dog or a person in the room or yard with him. We feel that he is just so in love with this new way of life that he frets when he’s alone again. He will most likely recover from this with a solid routine and lots of affection, but his new family needs to know this ahead of time so they can work on it with him.
Benjamin is completely healthy, happy and loving. He wants to share all of his great traits with a family as soon as possible. He is house trained and leash trained. He is very uncomfortable in a kennel and will try to escape, but since he is a gentleman in the house, it is not typically needed.
