My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tanner is an approx 2 year old Dachshund/Jack Russell terrier mix. He is more Dachshund size but his ears and tail are very JRT. Tanner was found as a stray in southern IN and the staff noticed that he had what appeared to be a snake bite on his neck. While he was being treated for the snake bite, a heartworm test turned out positive! Heartworm treatment calls for extremely limited activity/bedrest, so Tanner recovered in a prison before being brought up north by Rover Rescue where he was discovered to have kennel cough. This little guy has gone through ALOT in his short life.

Despite his life of excitement, Tanner is a very loving, people-orientated small dog. He knows how to climb stairs and likes sleeping in the human bed, so he must have been a house dog at some point in his life. He plays with squeek toys, ropes and balls and Cricket, his little foster sister, has convinced him that playing chase is the best thing in the world. Tanner has decided that he is a watch dog and will sit on top of the pirate's chest and will let out a low growl and one sharp bark when he sees a neighbor walking their dog or moving their garbage can.

Tanner LOVES people food and knows that it comes from a kitchen. His current favorite is pulled pork and he will sit and then stand on his hind legs for a piece. Tanner seems to be house trained and will claw and whine when he needs to go out. Tanner has not been tested with children or cats.

Tanner is up-to-date on vaccinations, has been neutered and because of previous heartworm MUST be on preventative for the rest of his life. If you feel that Tanner would be a good addition to your family, please contact Margrit at 630.820.1584. His adoption fee is $200.
