My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello there, I’m Stella. Please don’t mind me, as I can often be a little shy when I meet someone new. Life and humans have not always been kind to me, or cared for me- so trusting people is very new to me. When I first came to NBS Animal Rescue, I was covered in fleas, matted fur and parts of my body were shaved so close that my skin was pretty raw & flaking. My friends at NBS promised me that no harm would come to me, and they would make sure I knew nothing but kindness from that day on. They bathed me, flea combed me, treated me for intestinal parasites, groomed me, spayed me and got me up to date on all of my vaccines and needed tests. Now that my body is healing, the volunteers in our rescue have been helping my heart to heal too!

Now, my fur is growing back- and I enjoy getting a bath and my nails done. I especially love being silly after bathtub time, and wrestling the fluffy towels. Afterwards, I like to cuddle up and watch TV. (no really, check my petfinder or adoptapet photos…I love a good movie/show) Even though I am shy at first, I really do love to play. I’m fairly good at wrestling rope toys, and I get so excited I scamper and slide around the house. Of course, I get along with other dogs, and my foster home has a cat now too. I would do best in a home with kids 10 and up. It isn’t because I don’t like little kids, or would bite them – it is just that being in a new place is already scary, and because I’m so little and sweet (8lbs) I tremble when new people pick me up. It would be nice to have a home that has patience in building me up, so that I can greet new people with confidence. Also, a fenced in yard would be great – since this whole “leash thing” is new to me. I am potty trained, and always go outside in my fenced in yard with no problems. Are you impressed? I’m pretty proud of myself for that one. Crate training has also been a challenge…not for me, for my foster mom. I know how to open crate doors and can jump baby gates. Not because I want to escape, but because I get really worried and have to find my humans. Thankfully, my fosters appreciate my quirkiness in needing to be able to see where they are. Also, I’m a little spoiled and am allowed to sleep on the bed. I have a happy dance that I do every time I get to be on a soft blanket. Don’t worry, I don’t move a lot, and I am a professional snuggler and I don’t snore. In fact, I’m an ideal lap-warmer and cuddle buddy.

Do you think there is room in your heart and home for a silly girl like me? Oh – and please, watch my video of my playing with a rope toy. It just might melt your heart and make you smile.

If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:

1.) Visit www.nbsar.org to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….

2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.

3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.

My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. If you’d like to meet me, please apply online and to become an approved adopter!

Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative , spayed/neutered (unless a documented medical reason is on file with your veterinarian). Dogs must be current on Distemper DHPP combo vaccine and Rabies vaccine, cats must be current on Distemper and Rabies at the time of application. This also applies to any pets in your home within the past five years.

While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
