My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATE 9/10/15: Joey is finally available for adoption! He has arrived in Maryland and has finished with all his vetting! He is looking for that special family that will understand Joey may not walk like other dogs, but that he is a fighter and survivor, and is one happy little guy! Joey now weighs about 15 lbs. and is about 8 months old. He is finished with his surgeries, and has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Joey is NOT disabled! His surgeries corrected what could be corrected, and now nothing stops this little guy. He loves to swim, run, play, jump, and is as healthy as can be. We are searching for a family for Joey who can look past his limp (he is not in any pain) and will give him that forever home he has been waiting for. He is looking for someone to give all his love to, and his heart is filled with so much love and gratitude, that he shows it every day! Joey's spine has healed, his fractured leg healed, and the dislocated leg was operated on and has healed. Swimming is the very best exercise for him and he LOVES it! He has a long life ahead of him, and is looking for a family who will commit to loving him and cherishing him for the rest of his life, never hurting him or abandoning him again! He has been given a clean bill of health. Joey is a cuddly affectionate boy who loves to play and be close to his people. He also LOVES other dogs, and nothing stops this little guy from having fun no matter what he is doing :)

Interested adopters please email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an application. Adopters subject to vet reference, personal references, home visit and meet and greet. Adoption fee applies.

8/1/15: JOEY IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION YET. Please watch his video. Little Joey is just a tiny pup, only 6-7 months old, who has endured more life than most can imagine. His little body was crushed when he was a small puppy, but we don't know how. He was found as a "crippled stray" on a road in the Louisiana Bayou. Animal control was called, picked him up, and he was destined for a quick death at a kill shelter, due to his injuries. But the shelter manager saw something in him and networked him on social media. Thousands of miles away, our volunteers saw his picture and committed to saving him, regardless of the severity of his injuries. The little 6 lb, emaciated and broken dog was rescued and taken immediately to a vet. The vet recommended euthanizing him, because his x-rays showed a broken back, one leg broken in at least two places, and the other leg badly dislocated. We refused and sought a second opinion. The second opinion was more promising, and on July 31, 2015 Joey had surgery to correct the dislocation and to remove dead bone in his fractured leg. He was also neutered. Joey is being advertised in order to raise funds to help his expenses which are currently approaching $2000 and are likely to go much higher. We also need to find a safe transport for him to come to Maryland.

We are told Joey's back has fused and he likely will not need surgery on it. The dislocation required an FHO surgery, because the femur had fused to the pelvis. The fractured femur and tibia have fused, and dead bone has been removed. Joey has also been neutered and vaccinated. When he gets to Maryland, he will get microchipped and his physical therapy will continue.

The purpose of this listing is to advertise Joey's needs for donations to help cover his medical expenses. We are accepting financial help for Joey through Paypal at this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=UB2G9EA8LHWRJ or through our email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com. We are also accepting check or money order donations payable to MJAS, PO Box 2084, Bowie, MD 20718. Thank you for your support to help Joey live!
