Dinah and Ella are looking for a home together in St. Louis, Missouri.
Estimated to be three years old, Ella is a kind and gentle soul who loves humans, other cats, and playing with the laser toy. More initially reserved, six year-old Dinah will sleep on your chest and beg for pets once you earn her trust. She can become so passionate that she will even push Ella out of the way to have affection or play time. Ella and Dinah get along perfectly together. They cuddle and nap with each other, chase each other, and wrestle together.
Ella and Dinah’s story has a very sad start. When their beloved human passed away, her family surrendered them to Animal Control. The animal control staff didn’t even know what their elderly human friend had named them. They stayed in a small room for cats that was right next to a room full of barking dogs, with little sound insulation between the rooms. When the intake number of dogs increased at the shelter, the staff placed barking dogs in the room with Ella and Dinah.
We can only imagine the fear and agony Dinah and Ella experienced, first losing their human and home and then finding themselves in a cold metal cage, surrounded by deafening barking. Dinah was terrified by the dogs and backed herself into a corner of the cage, sitting in the litter box with wide open eyes all day, only moving to curl up with Ella for comfort. They both had the look of cats who had given up.
Fortunately for Dinah and Ella, a kind man reached out with an offer to foster them. Their foster dad has taken painstaking care of them, and despite the traumatic experience in animal control, the two friends are thriving now. They do need to be adopted together and would do best in a home with no loudly barking dogs or small children. They get along well with other cats, especially non-territorial, non-aggressive cats - in fact, Dinah often lights up when she sees another cat in the room. They will take a little more patience and adjustment time than the average cat, but when they bond with you, they are the sweetest pair you will hope to meet.
What Dinah and Ella want more than anything is a stable forever home and a loving human they can call theirs for the rest of their lives. They deserve a happy ending. Can you help them?
