Important Note

Dinah is best friends with Ella. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Ella and Dinah’s story has a very sad start. They belonged to a woman who passed away a couple of months ago. They were then surrendered to Animal Control. We know almost nothing about their previous situation, which makes it difficult to know what triggers calm and/or alarm them. No one knew their real names, so they were called “Nina” and “Simone” in the shelter. They were placed in a small room for cats that was right next to a room full of barking dogs, with little sound insulation between the rooms. When the intake number of dogs increased at the shelter, dogs were then placed in the room with Ella and Dinah.

Already scared and confused by being taken from their home after their human was taken from them, this new situation was traumatizing for the two. Dinah was terrifed by the dogs and backed herself into a corner of the cage, sitting in the litter box with wide open eyes all day, only moving to curl up with Ella for comfort.

After a week or two of this, they were taken from the shelter by Frisky Whiskers Cat Rescue to their current foster situation. Because they were so sad, their foster dad renamed them after two blues singers (although Ella’s grey smudges also made her look like Cinderella and Dinah is Alice’s cat from the Wonderland stories, too). It took a week or so for Ella to come out from hiding, but when she did, she warmed up to pets and scratches (and treats!) very quickly. Dinah took about a week longer to trust their foster dad, only fully succumbing to his charms when he was playing with the laser dot with Ella. A couple of games of cat laser later, and she began seeking out physical affection. In fact, Dinah’s entire physical demeanor seemed to change overnight, and she actually looks like a completely different cat now.

Ella and Dinah have had a rough couple of months, but are getting better every day. What they want more than anything is a stable forever home and a loving human they can call theirs for the rest of their lives.

Ella (white and grey) is approximately 2 years old. Dinah (silver tabby) is approximately 4 years old. Both are spayed and test negative for FELV/FIV and are up to date on their vaccinations.

Ella is much more trusting of humans, but may take a day or two to come out of hiding. Dinah is a tougher nut to crack, but with patience will beg for scratches and laser games. When she finally comes out of her shell, Dinah will sometimes push Ella out of the way for affection or play time. They cuddle and nap with each other, chase each other, and wrestle together, so they are a bonded pair.

Ella and Dinah need to be adopted together, and we would prefer a foster-to-adopt arrangement, if possible. They would do best in a home with no dogs or small children, and not a lot of large groups of people coming and going. They get along well with other cats, especially non-territorial, non-aggressive cats - in fact, Dinah often lights up when she sees another cat in the room. If you have lots of windows to sit in and look at the world (and the birds) outside, they will love that. They will take a little more patience and adjustment time than the average cat, but when they bond with you, they are the sweetest pair you will hope to meet.

Our Adoption Process...

We ask people fill out an adoption application, and we interview applicants. Our goal is to ensure a good fit between cat and humans. Once we have reviewed the application, we require you to complete an adoption contract.

We do not discriminate against anyone for reasons of race, religion, politics, gender, or sexual orientation, but we reserve the right to refuse an adoption based on information we gain during the application process. We try very hard to match our cats' needs and requirements with applicants' lifestyles and circumstances. Our goal is to make every adoption a happy and lasting one!

Our adoption fees cover vet care for emergencies and medical issues in addition to routine care. Before adoption, all animals receive the following care: spay/neuter, vaccinations for FVCRP & rabies, test for felv/fiv, microchip, and treatment for fleas/parasites.

Adoption fees are as follows: 1) senior cats $95, 2) cats 1-7 $125, and 3) under one year $150. We do not intend to imply that senior cats are less valuable; rather, this fee schedule reflects the fact that senior cats tend to come to us already spayed and neutered.
