My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Looking for a barn cat? Photos in this listing are simply generic photos. Since our barn kitty "inventory" changes, we only use generic photos but are able to send you specific photos of cats available when you put in a barn cat application with your interest and what you are looking for. SCHS has male and female cats who are in need of forever homes in barns! Short haired, medium haired, long haired, a variety of colors and patterns, and ages . . . .these cats are more comfortable living outdoors and would prefer country livin' over roughing it indoors and would love to lounge on a bale of hay, roost in your barn, peruse stalls and ensure your farm has no rodent problems while bringing it charm and meows! Each of these cats has already been spayed/neutered, is current on all shots, Feluk/FIV tested, treated for fleas with Revolution and de-wormed. We have feral cats, but also some that are not feral but still better suited for an outdoor home. These are  cats which are maybe shy with people or skittish, do not get along with other pets in close proximity, or simply cats which don't like to be held or petted much but enjoy looking out the window or tackling furry mice at their foster home instead! Email today to get more info on our selection of kitties that are suitable for country living on the farm and we will be happy to assist!  To support our foster and adoption program, a donation of $25 is requested for a barn kitty adoption.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

A cat or kitten only leaves its foster home ONCE an adoption application has been approved. Each is spayed/neutered and has completed all required vetting per our protocols, prior to going to it's adoptive home.

SCHS vetting for foster cats and kittens includes: spay/neuter, current on shots, FeLuk/FIV test neg. (FeLuk test neg. only for kittens under 5 months of age), Rabies vaccination (cats over 6-months of age), Frontline and/or Revolution treatment, and HomeAgain Microchip. You get all the vet records for your new family member, and a starter bag of food too!

Go meet their pets

All Scott County Humane Society pets are in volunteers' foster homes. We do NOT have an intake facility and are NOT the Scott County Animal Shelter. All animals in our care are from the Scott County Animal Shelter, an open-admission, county-run facility.

We do adoptions through online listings on websites such as this one, as well as most Saturdays from 11am to 5pm at the PetSmart in Lexington at Hamburg-Pavilion! We also do adoptions at the SCHS Center in Georgetown in the Indian Acres Shopping Center.
