My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Puppies

Aren’t they adorable? These puppies are 8 mixed breed puppies born June 25/26. There are 5 females and 3 males. We rescued their mom, Cheyenne, from a rural pound where she was a stray. She is a 1 yr old, lovely natured German Shepherd/Border Collie/Husky mix. Shortly after taking her in we learned that she was pregnant. Thankfully her foster home is very experienced in puppy births and care so she was in good hands. Late into the night and into the wee hours of the morning these 8 precious babies were born in the comfort of a loving home, with caring people by their side. Everything went very well and we couldn’t have been happier!

The pups won’t be able to go to their forever homes until late August 2015 but we are posting them now in the hopes of having their adoptive families selected and ready to take them home when the time is right. We know their mother very well and she is a total love of a dog. She is quiet and loving and gentle natured. Pups tend to take on the personality of their mothers so we fully expect these pups to be just as darling as she is. Because Cheyenne was a stray we have no idea who the pups’ dad is. However with 2 of the pups being a chocolate colour we believe dad was probably a Lab. Some of them have Lab builds as well. We will know more as they grow but it is a very safe guess to say that they will be Shepherd/Lab/Border Collie like in their size and appearance when grown. Some of them have full or partial blue eyes of their Husky lineage. They will be large but not massive (about 50-65lbs full grown), sturdy, medium energy dogs capable of doing anything you wish to participate in. And with their breed mixes we expect these pups to be very intelligent dogs that will make great family pets.

We will only consider homes for the pups where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. We are also looking for families that are fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. We are also looking for a family that will crate train the puppies as we fully believe that this is the best for pups and offers them a quiet and secure “den” to call their own. A crate trained pup is a blessing as it offers a safe place to put them when you can’t be watching them all the time.

We will be expecting our adoptive families to attend puppy socialization class with their new pup immediately upon adoption, along with, at minimum, level 1 obedience school after. The guidance and lessons learned in puppy classes are very important to getting your pup off to a good start. We handle these pups every day and will be offering them everything they need to be the best pups they can be when they leave our care but we need the adoptive families to take over for us when they get the pups home. We take our responsibilities to these pups very seriously and only want the best for them. They are being raised in our home, in our care, and have been since the first night when they made their presence into the world. We adore these puppies and will settle for nothing less than a dedicated, loving family that is well aware of the breed requirements and the needs of a puppy and this breed mix. We also are looking for families that want the dogs they will grow to become, not just the little bundle of furry cuteness. If you have been thinking about adding a large breed puppy to your family and have the time and patience to properly raise a pup then they may just be perfect for you. We know you will fall in love with them as deeply as we have when you meet them. They are simply adorable puppies. The only question will be, which one to choose?

(please note: we will be placing these pups into homes based on temperament and best suitability for each particular home. Although colour is what draws people initially, a good temperament and personality match is the most important factor . We will be selecting pups for families based on this, and of course with the families input as well. So families with open minds and the desire to have their best puppy match only please!)

All Pound Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, de-wormed (if required), and micro-chipped prior to adoption. The adoption donation of $400 is applied to assist in the costs of veterinary care and the overall care of the dog.
