My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SAMMY is a 6 year old neutered yellow male Lab who weighs 80 pounds. He is a handsome yellow fellow that is looking for a new family to love! Sammy's two favorite things are swimming and playing fetch. He and his tennis ball are great friends. Sammy needs to go to a family with the time to devote proper attention and exercise him. He will do best with a fenced in yard and a family that likes to play fetch! Sammy is house trained and crate trained, though he no longer needs to be crated. He does know basic commands. He is ok on leash but can get excited and does pull since he hasn't been getting regular exercise. He does well at the dog park but prefers retrieving to playing with other dogs. Sammy is good with kids of all ages and previously lived with a 2.5 year old from birth and did well with her. He is good with other dogs. Sammy did ok when previously visiting with a cat on a vacation, so he may be good with cats. Sammy is approved for kids of all ages.

His evaluator said: "Sammy is so friendly and happy. He was very active during the visit and was trying to get me to play and pet him. He would not sit or lie down. He is not currently getting enough attention and seems to be starving for it! There were kids toys strewn about and he only had eyes for his ball. He definitely needs regular and consistent exercise and will do best with a fenced yard to run and play. He is currently getting no exercise and is very strong on lead. He is very gentle and sweet with the toddler."

Note: Not approved for apartment/condo/townhouse living. He needs a fenced yard. No invisible fence. He may be 6, but he's full of energy and fun.

Update (8/13): Sammy arrived with a bump in his head. After much testing, our vets concluded that this is a type of aggressive skull cancer. Because of the location, it is inoperable. Sammy is having fun with his foster family who will show him love and fun times for as long as he's with us. He is available for adoption if anyone has the heart to bring him into their lives for a short time. He's with Allie Greene in Herndon, VA. Right now Sammy is shining bright and has given Allie a rainbow for a short time before he goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
