Facts about Phoenix

  • Breed: Thoroughbred Mix
  • Color: Dun
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Medium
  • Sex: Male
Confiscated by Marin Animal Control on June 1, 2013 and placed into SERRA's hands, this yearling was in very poor starvation condition.

The colt was designated 'domesticated feral' which means although he was owned and domiciled on a ranch, he was never touched or handled. Bred out of the famous Harris Ranch stallion Tizbud, this colt deserved a LOT better than poor treatment from his Novato owner.

With good veterinary guidance and exacting volunteer daily care, the colt grew beautifully. Presently he is 3 years old and will be a medium height as is his sire. Phoenix is his new name. And rising from the ashes of his poor condition he has!

And he's destined for athletic greatness with his fine breeding through Harris Ranch. Loves and trusts humans now. Very easy to train and a quick learner. Right brained energetic horsenality with left brained willingness.

Nice blend. Excellent curiosity and loves learning new and different things. A LOT of try in this colt. Parelli started with all ground handling games and learning in natural horsemanship. He's gorgeous, athletic and looks just like a young Secretariat. In December of 2014, renowned Parelli 3 star instructor Erin Fowle helped us to further train Phoenix, and even gave him his first ride - which he performed with athleticism, good nature and a desire to please and do the right thing! Shots Current.

Phoenix has been saddled and backed and lightly ridden. He will start colt development this fall.

About Anthony Ponter

About Our Rescue Group...

SERRA primarily serves to help families to re-home their horses due to job loss, foreclosures or other family financial or medical proven need wherein the family can no longer care for their horse.
We also serve Marin Humane Society and Animal Control, Sonoma County Animal Control and assist other animal control agencies as caregivers in equine rescue.
We are run entirely by volunteers donations and private funding.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We welcome potential adopters to our location after they have filled out our application for adoption and passed our background check. We are by appointment only.

Our Adoption Process...

We have no fee for adoption/foster care. All applicants undergo rigorous background checks and need veterinary personal recommendations to manage the future care for the animal. Adopters must be legal age of adulthood and cannot be from outside of the State of California for legal reasons or take horses out of California. Our horses are vet checked and ready for adoption.
