My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buffy: 8 year old spayed female yellow Lab, ~ 78 pounds

Hi I’m Buffy, no not the vampire slayer…I am way more likely to cuddle you to death than to bite you! I love to hang around people and other dogs, but I spend a lot of my time in the garage alone, and now my humans are moving and can’t take me with them. I would love a new forever home, where I can go on walks with you every day, play with you, hang out with you. I’m a little on the chunky side, and since I’m getting older, those nice long regular walks will help me take off some weight so I can stay active well into my senior years. But mostly I am just looking for someone to keep me company! Would that person be you?

What Buffy’s Foster has to say:

In Buffy’s first days she was sweet, affectionate, needy and a bit stressed. She is settling down nicely, and we are working on building her confidence so she won’t feel as needy. Part of her confidence building is getting her comfortable riding in the car; this has involved riding on tie down with treats to OSH, where she charmed everyone she met and loved the attention.

I use a correction collar to walk her, and keep her right next to me…she’s a dream to walk, seldom pulls, readily responds to correction. She doesn’t pull to sniff, doesn’t want to mark on anything. She gets excited if she sees another dog, but doesn’t go crazy. She’s much easier to walk than my 7 pound Chihuahua!

She sleeps like a baby either on the floor or her bed in my room.

What Dog’s Rescue Rep says:

Buffy is a super sweet little chunk of a yellow Lab. She has a gorgeous, very light colored (but not white) coat, and big brown eyes you can drown in. She will turn 8 in August and has very good energy for her age. She is overweight, and could stand to lose ~10 pounds, which is already coming off with regular exercise and portion control. Other than her weight Buffy is in very good shape. We will be taking her for a wellness check to be sure that her weight is not the result of anything other than over eating and under exercising.

Buffy does have some training; she knows Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Off and Fetch. She walks on leash with a correction collar, not pulling but staying right by your side. Buffy has some issues riding in the car (she must not have been taken anywhere good before!) but she is getting better with treats and positive reinforcement. She is good with other dogs, including the resident 7 pound ferocious Chihuahua that lives in the home, and she used to spend her days with the yellow Lab next door. Buffy is also good around cats.

We think Buffy will be an easy dog to live with. She has spent a lot of time alone in the backyard or garage, so we want her next home to be one that has time to spend with her. We’ll be looking for someone who will commit to getting and keeping her weight off though regular exercise (she will need to work her way up but should eventually be able to do long walks), can reinforce her training, and most important, with be there for her, to give her lots of love and attention. Buffy would be great for a house with kids (she does not jump up) or a house without; as long as there are humans to love her and be with her, she will be happy. Buffy is house safe and yard safe but should not be left alone in the back yard, as she has a tendency to go visiting with the neighbors if there is an unsecured gate! Her new family will need to continue working on understanding that car rides are happy things too.

Buffy is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm free and on preventive, and micro-chipped (although we are still locating her chip number). Buffy is located in San Jose.

If you would like Buffy to join your family and have the time to spend with her, call Rescue Rep Debbi 408-613-2044.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
