My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Some dogs just need a second chance at life. And that is exactly what Ben needs. He was rescued from a kill-shelter in KY. He came to LLR, underweight, not neutered and of course, heartworm positive. But that's not even the saddest part of Ben's story. His black Lab buddy was hit by a car and died, and poor Ben would not leave his side. A good samaritan picked both of them up and took them to the shelter.
Despite living a hard, sad life for the last 7-8 years, Ben’s future is looking very bright. Ben has been fully vetted and successfully treated for heartworms. He's been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Ben is house and crated trained, but his foster family trusts him enough to allow him free roam of their home. He just naps on the dogs beds with his two Lab foster brothers. Ben is very sweet and likes to chew on bones and LOVES to go on walks. He walks well on his flat collar. He also loves treats and takes them nicely. While Ben gets along well with other dogs, we're not sure about cats.
Ben sounds like the perfect older gentleman, but because of his life and treatment before coming to LLR, he does need a patient family. Ben can be skittish and aloof at times but he does want to be around people and know where you are. Ben should go to a home with another dog, preferably a confident dog who can continue to show him the ropes. He should go to a home with older children but he does just fine with younger kids. Ben is very, very sweet and has no aggression at all. The best home for Ben is one that will give him plenty of time to adjust and get comfortable. He wants to be part of a family, just not sure how to do it.
If you think you could give Ben a loving home and provide him with the patience and confidence he needs, he will be forever grateful. We want to show him that life can be wonderful and that he deserves better than what he's had for the past 7-8 years. He is available for adoption in the Midwest and Northeast. Please complete an application at www.luckylabrescue.com and mention “Ben” in the notes section.
