Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Riley is an incredibly sweet 7 year old female golden retriever that weighs in at 50lbs. She has more love than she knows what to do with and absolutely loves to cuddle up next to you. While Riley prefers to do this on the couch or bed, she will respect a firm NO if that is not allowed. She listens well and is easily trainable. She knows basic commands with the exception of stay. Riley is also housebroken and has recently been entitled to free roam of the house while we are away and there has not been any issues! She also does decent on a leash but will require some more training so she stays by your side. Riley is also a free eater so she is extremely easy to feed and maintains the perfect weight on her own. Did I mention how much she loves to cuddle? Riley is a very affectionate golden that seems desperate to find a forever home that can share all of the love she has to offer. She has brought joy and laughter to her foster home and will be a loving companion to her forever family.
Riley does have a high prey drive and will need a home with no cats or small animals. She even likes to chase birds in the yard. Even though she likes to give chase, it is extremely rare for her to bark.
Riley has tested positive for Heartworm and will be undergoing treatment soon. She'll need to be on a no activity regimen for the next 30 days while she recovers from this treatment and on a low activity regimen for 6 months.
Both her treatment and blood test after 6 months are paid for by GRFR at one of our contracted vets. She will need to be kept quiet for 30 days post treatment. Riley's forever family will need to be sure she takes a monthly heartworm preventative year round. Some people might be leery of a dog like Riley who has had heartworm, but there is no need to be. It is both curable and preventable.
Would you like to meet this special girl? Let us know.
She is on hold until the end of September but can be adopted out before her heartworm treatment. Her forever home will need to follow the protocol for HW, keep her quiet and work with one of our vets for the treatment and follow up.
