Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Amelia and Braeden are a bonded pair of Dachshunds that are available for out-of-state adoption, but must be adopted together for their happiness.**
These beautiful pups were dumped in a city just north of Houston in a very busy and dangerous location. They were clearly out of their comfort zone and were terrified. We had to get a safe trap and we were able to catch them and bring them into safety. These pups were in terrible condition, covered in fleas and ticks, but our foster family took them in and they are both doing very well now. They are pure Dachshunds; both estimated at 2 years old and each weighs about 10-12 pounds.
Amelia was surprisingly found to already have been spayed, however she tested positive for heartworms. She is currently being treated and that doesn’t prevent her adoption. Her treatment is very simple, just medication twice a month for her new owner and Reggie’s Friends will provide that at no cost. She is still a little bit shy, but once she has your trust, she is an absolute doll and will become your shadow. She loves to snuggle and receive belly rubs as often as you are handing them out.
Braeden was not neutered, but has been since his rescue. He tested negative for heartworms, so that is wonderful news! He seems to follow Amelia’s lead and he’s the more reserved of the pair. He depends on her for confidence, but together they are a great little team. If Amelia is snuggling with her foster mom, Braeden will as well. Braeden likes to initiate play often with Amelia and she is very accommodating with him. Braeden is not fond of other dogs, so we are hopeful to find a family for these two pups together where they can be the only pups in the family.
These two were clearly outside dogs in whatever their previous situation was before their big rescue day. They are learning things that are typically learned during the puppy stages, but they are catching on to the rules quickly. They are hounds, so chewing seems to come naturally. Their foster mom is helping them to learn that their Nylabones are the only appropriate things to chew on, but in the meantime….they are crated if they are unsupervised. They are nicely crate trained and about 85% potty trained. They are still working on leash training and will need continued assistance from the new owners with that.
Amelia and Braeden are sweet and beautiful Dachshunds. They are loyal and inquisitive in nature and need a patient new owner that understands their past and is willing to help transition them into a new life. They will have each other, so that will make it a lot easier on them. They are playful and fun and will make excellent companions for someone. Their extra-long backs make them very prone to injuries if handled incorrectly, so we feel that small children wouldn’t be the best fit for these two. The hound in them makes cat chasing instinct, so they also need a home without feline friends.
This adorable little pair is currently living in Houston, Texas and available for local or out-of-state adoption. If adopted outside of Texas, they will take a direct flight into their new home town. Their adoption fee is $500 for both pups which will cover the cost of their airline flight and travel crates.
