Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Sherman! This gorgeous brindle puppy arrived a scared, skinny, hideaway, nervous baby and has blossomed into a happy, playful, friendly little guy. He came to us from a rural Kentucky pound as a very young puppy. It was apparent he had never been on a leash before, and we don't think he'd spent much time outdoors as he was scared of outside sounds. He spent most of the day at his foster home curled up in a corner of the couch and shied away from strangers.
But after a short time a brand new dog began to blossom out of this old shell of a puppy. His foster 'brother and sister' dogs taught him how to engage in play, to run, to wrestle, to sit together, and to sleep together. His foster mom taught him how to walk on a leash, play with toys, sleep through the night in his crate, ignore the cats, and welcome human attention. Though not totally there yet, he's well on his way to being a real snugger / kisser / jump-in-your-lapper. He likes it when YOU sit next to HIM on the couch and give him snugs and petting. Now about 16 weeks old, Sherman is ready to move on to his forever family and new home.
Sherman's new family will continue with his training and socialization and finish his transition into a loving, engaging dog. He will make a wonderful companion for someone willing to give him the little bit of extra TLC he'll need to gain confidence and feel secure. He's ready to move on. He's ready for puppy school. He's ready to connect with his forever family. Because he is still a puppy, he needs a family where someone is home so he will not be left for long hours all alone.
We believe Sherman may be a boxer/hound mix who will be a medium size dog when grown, but really, it's anybody's guess. Currently weighing in at about 16 pounds, we do not know what size, shape or breed he will appear to be as an adult. Therefore, his adopter must be flexible and willing to adopt Sherman 'as is' and willing to accept whatever his adult persona will be.
You can meet Sherman at his current foster home, Wilmette Pet Center, 625 Green Bay Rd., during normal store hours (847-251-6750, www.wilmettepetcenter.com) Though you may want to take him home on the spot, please know you will first have to go through our normal application process.
Sherman's adoption fee of $325 includes: vet exam, distemper combo vaccination, bordetella vaccination, deworming, heartworm preventative, flea & tick preventative, microchip and neuter.
